Fully Customized 97B
« on: June 19, 2012, 05:54:01 PM »
After reviewing the numerous threads on this great forum and having more 1911s than I care to admit to, I have decided to take the plunge and let Schmeky have his way with my brand new 97B (with some assistance from the fine folks at the CZ Custom Shop for some of the parts and Accurate Plating and Weaponry for the stippling and chroming).

Now that the home equity line of credit has been established  ;) below are the mods he will be performing as of 06/19/12:

1   Dust Cover shortened, corners radiused, re-engrave SN
2   Bore and slot slide for E.Brown blue O/S match 1911 bushing
3   Slide stop pin cut flush and end beveled
4   Undercut trigger guard, blend and smooth a la 1911
5   Break all sharp edges
6   Slide, release, safety, trigger to retain OEM polycoat
7   SP-01 slide stop
8   Stipple front and back strapsof frame
9              Refinish frame, barrel bushing, barrel, Steve Bedair SS guide rod and CGW slotted screws in HC
10   End of barrel cut flush to barrel bushing with eleven degree crown at muzzle
11            CGW Race hammer kit
12   CGW SPGKI spring kit
13   CGW floating trigger pin (TR-PIN)
14   CGW slotted SS grips screws (4)
15   CZ Custom Tactical rear sight
16   CZ Custom or CGW Dawson Precision F/O front sight (#10407)
17   CZ SAO trigger with pre-travel
18   CZ75 Extended Ambi-safety LHS #10225
19   Steve Bedair SS guide rod
20            VZ Grips Tactical Diamonds Black Full Size G10
21   Full action polish, tune, install all the above, function test
22            Add one more happy customer to his list of growing clients

I will provide updates as Schmeky updates me or this thread. And of ocurse, any changes to the above list will be identified as well if and when they occur.

If ya'll ask nice eough, he might even be talked into providing pics as he progresses towards the finished product, i.e., work of art.

So it looks like Christmas will be coming in August or September for me this year!

Sounds great!  I've had similar thoughts rolling around in the back of my head, but am probably more like 6-9 months away from starting the project.  You hit most of the ideas I had thought of except the replacement bushing.  Should turn a reported tack driver into a super tack driver.  The other passing idea I had was maybe adding the Novak light rail if it would blend with the 97 frame.  Haven't had a chance to ask anybody yet.

So I will officially start the begging process.  David please, please, please post some pics as you go :)

I can't wait to see the final photos.  I'm sure it will be an inspiration for a lot of people here.  Might finally kick me over the edge to order one.  O0

I want to thank docargyle for giving me this opportunity.  I think I may be more excited to get started than he is.  Yes, I will post pics of the project from an out of the box stock CZ-97, to the finished project.

BTW,

I have several NIB CZ-97's, as well as some other CZ models enroute I am going to be building and posting on my website on a "CZ's For Sale" page.

Here is the slide after boring for the new Match 1911 bushing.  It was indicated perfectly on -0- before boring.

Here is the stock 97 barrel before being re-crowned.

Here is the same barrel after cutting the new crown to 11 degrees.  Still have to finish lap this cut, but even in the "rough" it turned out beautifully.

Docargyle, would you mind giving us a price break down of all the parts and work that is being done to your gun? I'm looking to order a 97B for myself within the next month, and I'm debating on having it sent directly to either CZC or CGW to have much of the work done that you're getting, and I'm just curious as to your grand total (roughly) so that I could approximate for what I'm looking to get done. Thanks in advance, and she's looking great with the pics that Schmeky has posted thus far! I'm anxious to see the final result.

miataeric1,

I currently have 3 - CZ-97's in stock.   These will be built into my CZ-97"BE" series (bullseye) since they will be accurized, smoothed, and tuned to the n'th degree.  I am awaiting my new firing pins and some tooling.  They will also feature a low-profile fully adjustable serrated rear target sight and the customer can select a black serrated front or F/O for the front.

These will the ultimate range or bullseye competition CZ-97's, shooting with (or outsthooting) 1911's that cost substantially more.

Will the trigger reset also be adjusted to minimize reset distance?

The guns you're getting ready to build do indeed sound incredible, but I've got a few certain things that I really want. First, I intend on starting with a glossy blue gun, then I wanted to have a F/O front site and CZC tactical rear site (with tritium inserts) installed, custom hammer/trigger job done, polish all the usual pieces inside, possibly spring work (depending on professional recommendations), your accurizing services probably, and possibly a different trigger or reach reduction down the line after I'd had some time seeing how I fit the gun. My primary intentions for the gun would be home defense and range fun. I'm still a pretty new shooter and I don't have the time or means at the moment to get into any competition shooting or anything like that. I pretty much just want to improve the basic gun and have it made "special" just for me. The glossy blue is a definite must-have though.
I'm currently out to sea (in the Navy) for at least another month, so I'm just saving and trying to plan exactly what I want, all while figuring out roughly what it's going to cost me in the end. I'm not so much worried about how much, just how much I need to have to get it done  ;)

miataeric1,

I have a glossy blue 97 in my inventory.  It is used, but mint.  On the sights, I would suggest the MeproLites.  I have installed dozens of these and they are well made and fit well.  The Reach Reduction for the 97 will transform the long reach of a stock set-up and the new extended 97 FP's I have on order will make the DA quite light.

And thanks for serving our country, I support you 100%.

Frame has been shortened, finished, and all sharp edges blended and radiused.   It's off to the chrome plating shop tomorrow.  Customer has added stippling to the front and backstrap to be performed by the plating shop.  Once the frame gets back, this will move quickly to completion.  I have been informed my new rear sight prototype is ready for pick-up and inspection (prior to making an initial batch).  Hopefully, I can talk docargyle into using one.  I'll post a pic of the new sight very soon.
