Scope for VZ-58.
« on: July 29, 2012, 01:27:18 PM »
Hey guys,

I have a question best answered by some of the SMEs on this board.

I am buying one scope for my three guns (calibres range from .22LR, 223 and .308).

I have figured out what I need for everything except the VZ.58.

My setup has a FAB Defence polymer rail system. From what I understand according to some of the research I have done, this will accommodate the scope but it won't hold zero well.  My question is can I purchase the aftermarket dedicated scope mount to replace my rear sights and still keep my rail system? I'd hate to have to remove the rail system as it currently holds my red dot and I think it just plain looks nice.

Also any recommendations for a scope? Willing to spend $200 or so.. must have AO to accommodate the 22LR (suppose i could just buy a dedicated rim fire scope for like $30)

Hmm, best thing I've seen yet is the CzechpointUSA short rail system, works well will the 5.56mm vz-58. As for the FAB mount, I have no problem with zero, but I'm using a 1X red dot, not a true "scope" per se.

Thanks for the reply!

I can't say with absolute certainty that the FAB doesn't zero, it's just kinda what I gather from browsing the Internet.

Is the short rail system the VZ 58 Scout Scope Mount or is it different?

Another vote for CSA side rail mount. Great product, but Ive found scopes around the 200$ range tend to be best for 22lr or Airsoft... Havent had them hold up to the recoil of 7.62x39

I believe this is the part your talking about?

http://www.zahal.org/products/sa-vz-58-receiver%20side%20rail

My Vz.58 is chambered 5.56, the scope should hold up on both the 22 and the Vz fine, its the .308 that's potentially a problem.

Hello.

I am using the CSA sidemount for large scopes with shelldeflector, since the Vz ejects normally straight up, and on my FAB frontgrip I use a sidemounted 45 degree rail for my small reddot.

I am using Barska 1,5-6 scope with illuminated cross and a Barska copy of H1 reddot

For the past couple of weeks, I've had a Bushnell scope mounted on my VZ58.  I have been trying to make my own shell deflector and attach it to the scope mount.  The problem I ran into is that my VZ58 ejects the brass at the 12 o'clock position and at times, the deflected brass prevents the bolt from closing.  The deflector is angled so that the brass deflects to the right.  The last time I was at the range, I had 3 failures in 70 rounds i.e., the brass (really Wolf steel) goes in front of the bolt while the bolt is open, and prevents the bolt from closing.  When I was at the range, another shooter commented 'that is a very unusual looking scope mount'.

These two together, rock solid.

I will suggest a SHORT optic, to prevent what is described here. Right now I am using a Barska Electro Scope 4 x 28 on the 5.56mm vz-58, and it works well...but I'd rather have a 2-7 with more eye relief.

Nice photos guys, those look awesome!

I never looked into Barska, but price certainly looks right.

Looks like the side rail requires gunsmithing, that's a drag. I do like the overall look though.

Anyone ever mount a red dot on the top rail of the hand guard? If so yea or nay? I'm finally going to order a VZ58 from CzechPoint I know I've talked about it for a while now but I mostly shoot pistols as there's 2 indoor ranges very close to one of my stores so I can just throw a couple of pistols into a range bag and go on lunch. I always worry that someone will see a rifle in my truck (employee or customer & since were are an outsourced company on my customer's property I have to worry about what they think) when I go by my stores the pistol bag could just as easily be a gym bag. But now a local club is holding some IDPA multi gun matches on Sat afternoon and I would really like to try a VZ in 3 gun plus it gives me a new reason to get one and a better venue to shoot it at.

As this is a smaller range I suspect the furthest I will be required to shoot would be 50 yards but as my eyes aint what they used to be I would really like some type of scope or red dot. I have an extra Bushnell Trophy MP red dot I was thinking of putting on the hand guard rail as it sits too high to add to the Czech Point side scope mount. Any thoughts?
No one's gonna to do it for you.

As long as your handguard fits tight and doesn't move around that will work fine.

Return-to-zero will depend on fit, as well.

Same type of handguard that CzechpointUSA sells, Bushnell TRS-25, works great, no issues. That what you were looking for?

I shot about 700 rounds surplus ammo with my scopemount as shown in my pictures, I never had any problem at all.
Its an original scopemount from CSA, the factory that makes the rifles that Czechpoint sells in the States.

I mounted a Burris AR332 Prism sight on my Czechpoint optic mount.  The AR332 has 3X magnification, now Burris has a AR532 - 5X.  The Burris was okay but I wanted to mount a Bushnell 10X 40mm scope on my VZ-58.  The Burris is very short so it did not extent past the rail on the optic mount.  I had the Bushnell scope on my AR and moved it over to the VZ-58.  The shell deflector for the VZ that I made needs some modifications, so that it deflects all the brass away from the bolt.  IMHO the Bushnell is a very nice fixed scope for the money.

I want to clarify my earlier post little also.
The Scopemount they sell at Czechpoint is referred to CSA Short optic mount, the scopemount I bought with my rifle is original manufactured by CSA, and there named "Scope mount with shell deflector for long scopes".
I have not changed anything on the deflector since its original mounted.

You can see it from both sides here on some pictures, if you like I can take picture direct of the scopemount, just let me know.
