CZ .40 Problems, harsh recoil
« on: July 29, 2012, 05:01:08 PM »
Hello,

Been here before many years ago but forgot my password and stuff, but I'm a big CZ fan and have several CZ pistols. My recent acquirement was a CZ 100 in 40 S&W. I paid less than $200 for it from a family member who needed the money. Never wanted a DAO pistol or one in .40, let a lone in the same gun, but for the price, and being a CZ I couldn't pass it up.

First time I shot it, recoil was very harsh, read on here to switch the recoil spring to a G19 24lb spring. Shot some American Eagle 165 grain FMJ and 180 FMJ and still had harsh recoil, albeit much improved. With the 180 Grain, I got some minor firing pin primer swiping, and quite a bit with the 165 grain bullets. Recoil was bad enough it would spit the magazine out of the gun with either ammo. The magazines appear to not be factory, but an aftermarket brand, but seem to be of high quality. Far as I can tell they lock in just as good as any of my other CZ pistols.  The last round or two will also fail to feed, stovepiping, but I think it may be related to harsh recoil and such. I would also get some stinging from the trigger, possibly because of the grooving on its face (before I did any trigger work too).

With either ammo, casings were ejected about 10-15 feet. The only mods I have done was the extra power G19 recoil spring (stock guide rod) and done some trigger work, polishing surfaces to remove the grittiness as suggested on the forum. Is there something I could do to make it shoot well? I really want to like this gun, but I don't want to keep it if its a problematic and a pain to shoot.

Thanks,
Sterling

I'm not the expert on such matters, I've not really had similar problems with my CZ100 in .40. Since he hasn't already weighed in with an answer I would suggest sending a PM to the real expert... Old Coastie. He may be able to help you out.

Sorry KonigsT, my .40 has actually been a pleasure to shoot.  Maybe the previous owner already swapped my recoil spring, but my casings generally don't go 15 feet.  Do you have a non-ported barrel?   Muzzle flip can make life miserable.
