Don't buy ProMags!
« on: August 06, 2012, 12:16:57 AM »
I have had a CZ97B (RSR DuoTone  ;) ) for several years and shot it quite a bit. It came with one mag and I bought a spare Mec-Gar mag at the same time and I've never had a hiccup with either of them. A few years back, I bought four ProMags for the 97 but moved shortly thereafter and kinda lost them in the shuffle. This month, I dug them out of a box and put them in my workshop for later. Tonight, I got around to trying them in the pistol...These things are absolute goat poop! The fit is awful -- there's a good 1/4" gap between the bottom of the magazine well and the floorplate of the mag and they don't fit snugly in the well. I threw them all away. I don't remember what I paid for them, but I ain't gonna bet my life on some piece of junk like that, so I'll just consider the money wasted. I just ordered four more Mec-Gar mags. Lesson learned.

I'd keep them for the range. Use them for practicing malfunctions and speed reloads.

Some people do that, but I'm not willing to chance it. I'd hate to accidentally mix up a junk mag with the ones I count upon. I suppose I might dig them out of the trash and paint them red or something, but I'll probably just get rid of them.

Leave them in the trash! They'll serve you best there. I won't use anything but a Mecgar or CZ factory mag in My guns. Also CZ recently made some improvements to the earlier factory mag design which cures slide lock and feeding issues that a few of the early mags had.

I used to have guns from several different makers.  I have tried Promags a couple of times.  I have never had one that worked.  All of my after market mags are now Mecgar.  Never had a problem with one so why switch.

Well excuse me, Your Highness! This was my first experience with ProMags and it occurred to me that there may be others like me who lack your limitless knowledge of all things.

My Mec-Gar mags arrived today -- very fast considering that I live in Alaska. Fit is perfect; I'll test fire them tomorrow. Kudos to Mec-Gar.!

The standard mags with my 97 are mecgar. My gun is a 1st year production. I thought all 97 mags were mecgars. EAAs big 45 uses the same mag and almost the same frame. Glad you got your mags in hand now.
