Scope height: I need some advice
« on: August 19, 2012, 08:09:30 PM »
Hey. I'm new here. I have a newbie sort of question.

Dad gave me his (almost) unused 1969 Remington 700/7mmRM, (it had about 35 rounds through it, total) and I've decided to upgrade the scope, which I have done. I've not mounted it yet. I set it in gently into the old-fashioned Weaver bases and the front bell is about 6-7mm above the barrel. (About 3/8ths of an inch.) Should I be satisfied with that or should I try and go lower?

I've got pretty good cheek weld and I can pick up the sight picture pretty easily. I have to get new rings as the bands on the old Weavers won't stretch.
