Cherokee,
What is the budget of your scope? Is your current scope a 1" or 30mm tube diameter? The reason I ask is if you currently have a 1" scope, you may not want to purchase new rings.
The recommendation of the new Redfield scopes is a good one for a lower priced optic. The Revolution line is made in America in the same factory, on the same equipment, by the same employees who make all the Leupold scopes. The Revenge series of scopes are assembled in the Phillipines, but are of no less quality. All Redfield scopes carry a FULL Lifetime warranty. If you ever decide to sell the scope, it fully transfers over to the new owner. No warranty cards, no questions asked, no time limits.
You mentioned that you have an older Tasco scope on the rifle. You should be warned that the newer Tasco scopes are NOT the quality scope that the older Tasco were.
If you're looking for compactness and inexpensive, the Redfield Revenge 2-7x34 runs about $140, and 3-9x40 runs $160. This is quite a bit more expensive than the Tasco Varmint scope you were looking at, but it is a scope that you will have for life. If it ever has focus problems like your Tasco currently is, they will repair or replace it for free. Plus the optics between the two aren't even comparable. The Redfield is in another category all together.
