527 22 HORNET SHOOTING 30 GR BARNES VARMINT GRENADE BULLETS
« on: September 14, 2012, 10:49:43 PM »
My Son and I shoot CZ 527 22 HORNETS. We shoot the 35 GR V-MAX bullets and they work very well. But we would like to try the BARNES 30 GR VARMINT GRENADE BULLETS. The only problem is I can`t find any to try. The LGS say they can`t get them or Barnes does not make them. I even call POWDER VALLEY and they said they had never heard of them, and didn`t think Barnes even made such a bullet. Do any of you CZ 527 22 HORNET shooters have any info on how the bullet shoots and what loads are you using. One other thing do any of you CZ shooters single load and not use the magazine. The Gun Smith from CZ in Kansas CITY told me not to try it because CZ is a controled feed, and to not use the mag I could really damage my rifle. He said there was a very good chance of breaking the EJECTOR or EXTRACTOR doing this. Any comments on this. THANK IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR HELP:    ken

They list them on the website.
SKU# 22430 for 100
SKU# 22446 for 250
You might have to buy them direct.

I don't load single cartridges in my 527. There is some conflicting info around on that.
I had the right to remain silent...

but not the ability.

I can't personally say how bad it is to top load from a CRF rifle for the extractor, but I can say this.  My hunting rifle is a Winchester M70 in .270 WSM.  When I was first sighting it in I would load 3 in the magazine and 1 in the top.  My targets would always have one flier.  Always.  From reading online at a long range hunting forum, I found out that this was failry common in CRF rifles.  Apparently what happens is that the cartridge gets pushed in the chamber, then the cartridge is slightly canted when the extractor is snapping over the rim.  I'm talking ever so slightly.

So I quit top loading and the fliers went away.  I had never noticed this in my Grandfather's 1903 Springfield or my Dad's Interarms Mark X, but neither of those guns really shoot sub MOA, so I guess it wasn't as obvious.

Check your manual... Mine says it's ok to load from the top...

My own experience is that it's dicey, though... Some rounds chamber properly, some don't... like the extractor claw isn't snapping over them....  So - I gave up on single loading this way....

If I really need to single load - I pull the bolt completely out of the rifle, slip a round onto the bolt face, then feed it back into the rifle....  Needless to say - I don't do it often...

Thanks

Interesting.

I bought my 527 used so I downloaded a manual from the CZ-USA website.

It too says the rifle can be loaded with single rounds...

Note: Loading is also possible for single cartridges by directly inserting into the chamber without the use of a magazine

you can polish a bevel  on the extractor ,i have don this  on a m98,but if you are not careful $#%#!. i would listen to the smith at cz.
i did  a mod on one of my clips for my 527 hornet ,i took .110 off the plastic spacer at the back of the clip and made another feed follower ,and can run bullets to the lands with no problems. i like the hornady 45 gr hornet ,it has the best bc. and the best long range accuracy ,the v max 35 and 40 grn bullets work well to 100 yrds, but fall short past that for me.
this clip mod is not hard to do ,you can find info on this mod online.
