Second range trip with my new Vz.58 = WIN
« on: September 15, 2012, 10:34:08 PM »
100 rounds of pure shooting pleasure. No problems, accurate and a fun shooter. Thanks Dan. No more screwing up on my part or I know I'll have to drop and give you fifty. Semper Fi. Previous problem = Operator error. Vz.58 = Excellent rifle.
Just a heads up for any new Vz.58 owners out there. Make sure you check both sides of your receiver cover after reassembly to make sure it's flush on both sides (on correctly) otherwise, you're gonna have trouble.

LOL   Duh.... Hey, the only single complaint now is this....mabe you guys heard it before, but....the buttstock is smooth and shiny as it rests on your shoulder. It allows the gun to slip and slide a little while firing. Is there a rubber buttstock pad or perhaps adhesive rubber grip tape or something that will prevent the rifle from slipping out of place during recoil?

Yep, UTG Model 47 Combat Butt Pad.  I have it on mine works well.

I ended up wrapping my AKFX stock with bicycle handle foam and using heat shrink to close off the ends.

Am i correct to imply from the name that is designed for the AK 47? Does it fit the Vz.58 properly?

It works surprisingly well. I was trying different things like wrapping 550 cord and duct tape. They did not work well. A friend of mine was showing off his expensive mountain bike and liked the foam wrap on the handle bars. He told me to go to the local bicycle shop to pick some up. After that I went to Harbor freight and picked up a different sizes of heat shrink. I think the 1" tubing actually worked.

Nice. But i've got the fixed stock military stock. What I need is traction on the end of the buttstock that directly rests on your shoulder.

I use the rubber pad that goes and an AK47 wood stock. It fits perfect and give me an inch extention on the stock which is what I need so my nose doesn't hit the receiver cover. I highly recomend it.

That's part of the reason i love the Vz.58 so much. A tight fit with my nose up to the receiver and my eye right along that awesome low bore axis. It's what you call being one with the gun.   ;)
