By my calculations:
9mm = $12.95 per 50 (sales tax included, Wal-Mart Federal) = $0.26 per round.
.22lr = $212.80 per 7500 (shipping included, great Cabela's deal a while back on 325 count federal bulk) = $0.0284 per round.
So every time I pull the trigger on my Kadet, I'm saving $0.2316.
My Kadet Kit cost me $360.00.
$360.00/$0.2316 = 1555 (rounding up, it's not like I can shoot 0.4 rounds ) rounds to break even.

At least that's the way I see it.

As far as I'm concerned, mine paid for itself in it's first trip today! I shot 540 rounds without a hiccup. All I can say is, WHY didn't I buy one of these sooner?!? 
I've gotta adjust the rear sight down a little bit, but that's no big deal. This thing was so much fun to shoot, and I STILL came home with ammo!!! It also helped that I have four mags, so I was only reloading every couple of minutes, but I could have used 10.
Mine fed CCI Mini Mags, CCI AR optimized, and Blazer bulk pack all without issue. The Blazer stuff was smokey, but shot just fine.

My only issue was going from the KK to my 97BE after 400 rounds of 22.... That first .45 shot with my 2 1/2 lb trigger pull caught me off guard! LOL. Had a blast at the range today and LOVE the addition of the Kadet. I can now go be a terrible shot and not go broke in the process!

For what I shoot my number was 1750 rounds. Great responses from others though.

The Kadet kit (to me) is priceless. I taught my wife and grandson to shoot the CZ 85 with the 22 Kadet conversion. There was little noise, no recoil and the gun is accurate. So both learned good shooting techniques before we went to center-fire cartages.
I now have 22 conversions for my CZs, EAA Witnesses, Kimbers, Colts and others. To me it only makes good sense.

Also a 22 Conversion Unit for my Colt Delta God Cup
If I onwed one (whatever) and they make a 22 Conversion Unit for it, I'd own it too

My first pistol was a 22 target pistol.  I still shoot it.
Using your factors, I've paid for it and a goodly number of Kadet Kits.
KICK ME!  I don't have a Kadet Kit, but now that I know it's already paid for many times over, I feel obliged to get one soon.

One thing about most any .22lr conversion; it?s good for cheap practice and plinking
BUT, the coolest thing about the Kadet Kit is its accuracy
So that adds that one extra facet to the Kadet Kit, making it worth that much more

Yes, 22lr is 5 times cheaper than 9mm... You will just end up shooting 5 times as much 22lr as 9mm rounds.

My Kadet kit is, without question, the best money I have ever spent on a firearm or related item.  I simply love it, everything about it.  If forced to sell guns it would be second to last.

A bulk box of 100 9mm and a bulk box of 550 22s cost about the same at WalMart
Now IF (and only if) you could limit your shooting to the same 100 shots, that box of 550 could last you 5.5 times as long
But who can stop at just 100 ?
