New member looking for buying advice on vz-58
« on: December 14, 2012, 07:59:14 AM »
Hello, I,m from Phila, Pa. I've be looking at some vz-58's from a local gunshop, the marking say they are CIA, but from two different states. One from Ga and one from Ct. Is there any difference in the quality of  build with them, or is a CIA a CIA? Thank you in advance, and have a great day.

The CIA version is known as a VZ2008. They are usually grey in color and retail for about $500.

The D-TECHNIK version is known as a VZ58. They are usually black in color and retail for about $800.

I personally own a black VZ58. It has performed flawlessly. I don't have any personal experience with the VZ2008 but I know other members here own them and seem to like them. For more info check out the VZ58 forum - http://www.czfirearms.us/index.php?board=67.0

Sabaala24 welcome to the forum.  The Czech made VZ58 is the creme de la creme of models.  The fit and finish and functionality are superb!  On the other hand I also own a VZ2008 by CIA, and though not as refined as the VZ58, still a fine gun.  Whether it's the 58 or the 2008, both are, in my opinion, a much more advanced weapon than the Ak series of guns.  You can read all the info online about the differences between the ak and vz but until you shoot one you won't have any idea how much smoother feeling and handling the vz is.  It's like comparing a cavalier to a bmw.

i own a vz2008 made in Georgia, it has a very dark black color to it. It performs great, has no mag wobble with the surplus mags, however it does have a slightly canted ( which is when the front sight is turned a few degress on the barrel from it being centered) front sight base that i am in the process of fixing. The place i bought from said they will fix it for me for free, so just check the sight picture before you buy it, if you notice that it is canted, see if they will fix it for you. There are some ways to check for this but i'm not an expert on it so youll have to research them. But it still has not failed to fire or eject anything yet, and i get decent groups with it. Take a look down the barrel with a bore light while you're at the shop too, make sure it has a nice barrel.

So any cia is considered a 2008. At the shop I saw them at they had ones with full stocks marked as vz2008, and the side folders marked just as vz58. The folders were 550 and 2008 500. The folders also had the plastic infused
wood, while  full stocked ones had a blonde like color.

yea if its made by cia its a 2008, even if it is a folder its just the name of their model. They fixed stock ones had actual wood furniture? i would get that one, i haven't seen one with wood before all the ones i have seen, mine included have the weird looking plastic infused woodchip stuff , coined beaverbarf. Wood ones seem to be  a little bit rarer

I've seen some sidefolders on GB that the sellers are calling VZ58s but on the gun it does say VZ2008.

The  D-Technik guns will be marked with that name on them. Grab one of those if your dealer has them.

When you say "marked with that name", do you mean marked de-technick?

I have a full wood Vz-2008, which is what compelled me to buy it...

It shoots great, I had issues with one magazine but I am pretty sure it was due to some excess paint on it that I've since sanded down but have not gotten it to the range to confirm that.

I also picked up a side-folding stock for it from a fellow forum member up in Austin.  I had purchased one earlier from someone else but it is a bit too woobly for my tastes, the second one I got was as tight as a drum.  They are easily swapped out, all that is required is a very long (18" if I recall correctly) flat-bladed screwdriver.  It took some effort to get the screw loose the first time, but since it has been no problem.

Cheers!  M2

Nice looking rifle. The one Iam looking at is a side folder with the redish tint furniture from cia. Still up in the air about it though.

the color differences between my vz2008 top (sold it) and my cz-usa vz58 (bluish gray) military style color.  sold the vz2008 but kept the original wood stock for my vz :)

My advice... buy two  :D  along with about 30 mags!!  Also, get yourself a few thousand rounds of ammo on-line... this platform is GREAT to shoot, you won't want to put it down.  I myself have a D-teknik, I love it and will be buying another in the next year for SBR purposes.
It's better to burn out than to fade away!
