The best replacement front sight post ever, possibly.
« on: January 06, 2013, 02:12:13 AM »
VZ front sights are "nearly" useless, not mine!  Take a look.  I have welded a bronze tip to it, taken it to a lathe, and then buffed and polished it.  As it is clearly the best sight on the market that I have seen, I was thinking of offering them for $50(shipped) or $40(shipped if you send in your OEM front sight post with the check/money order).  It's narrow for more precise shots, light infront of dark targets and dark infront of light targets.  What do you think?

I have owned all the front sights out there and they are crap, night sights are cool but total bullbleep(what are you going to see in total darkness), fiber-optic is to short and melts when heated by the barrel and what else is there?  Nothing but my sight!

Here is a picture:

Talk about improving your shooting.
Let me know.

Maybe design one more like the XS big dot and I'd be more interested.

I'll be your huckleberry! Put me down for one. The price is a bit steep but then again I don't know how to run a metal lathe (yet). I have an extra post around here somewhere to send you. I'll place an order soon and post my range feedback later too. Let's see how big my post-Christmas credit card bills are first before I outlay the cash. I'll be in touch.

It screws in like an SKS or AK.

Looks like Forced March went AWOL. Too bad, because it looks like a winner.

I missed this the first of the month.  Agree.  A thin slight post would be awesome.

On my Golani Galil, I have the thin South African front sight post and it does make a difference in precision.   It also has a rear peep...

I predominantly run a red dot on my VZ2008, so not sure that the thin front sight post makes sense for me.  Especially w/o a rear peep sight setup (yes, saw someone offered with a setup connecting to the rear stock base screw...).

I definitely agree w/ good optics.  Personally, I'd prefer to buy the sight outright w/ no exchange if I bought one as I like spares.  Front sight posts run $5 anyways so once factoring in tracked shipping (unfortunately all orders need tracked these days, been burned due to malice and negligence/disorganization of both shippers and sellers/buyers previously), it's a wash.

Has anyone had any luck or tried running the mojo rear peep? http://www.mojosights.com/sample-page/ak-sks/

With your front post, something like that really makes sense -- to me, your front post makes great sense under low light and shooting from light to dark too, but  the precision will be especially improved with a ghost ring/peep (not sure how the adjustment works on this Mojo though and whether it's combat expedient like current rear...).

My next VZ 58 will be my truck gun, so will likely stick w/ irons only on that.

Regardless of whether I make the jump on this, thank you for doing it.  Always enjoy seeing entrepreneurs making products available where they previously weren't.

RSR,

The with my more narrow front post you can see around it.  Has anyone tried shooting at 100yrds+?  I do regularly and without this sight your just guessing that the target is here or there, cause there's nothing to see. :)  Should your target move... FOR-GET-A-BOUT-IT!

I use the open rear on all my VZ's cause I get elevation, something that is real important at longer ranges.  A rear peep is generally for closer ranges and I think I can understand it's appeal.

I have owned the MOJO rear peep and sadly found it to be unremarkable poop.  It's got good construction/finish/looks, however they got something dramatically wrong, it's not built for a VZ.  It sits tilted and maybe more than 3/16" of an inch too high, I have learned from experience that neither lowering the rear nor raising the front sight can ever correct this mistake.  Possible removing 1/8" or more of metal from the receiver would correct this?

I have tried the front fiber-optic front, I don't recommend it to anyone.  It'll melt away under rapid fire and leave you with a rather unique 'front' peep sight that is silly and pretty stupid, or atleast that is how you'll feel after melting it.

Here is a comparison of the three, melted fiber-optic, my own improved, and standard issue.

Also if someone is able to purchase the original for less than $10 I'd like to know cause I'd like to buy some more for this bronzing process.

Yikes, I hope this NEA sight doesn't melt. I guess I'll have to do some mag dumps this year to test it. Thanks for providing more sight options for the VZ.

You clearly have a different model that I haven't tried out yet, but for me it was really just about heat transfer and the sight, ate it big time.  Nothing like showing up at a range looking cool and leaving promptly feeling like a fool.

That's a great line.

Apex is selling for $6: https://www.apexgunparts.com/product_info.php/cPath/63/products_id/520
And Numrich is selling for $7.25: https://www.gunpartscorp.com/Products/867930.htm

I totally get the thin front sight post, and think you're product is a great concept -- don't mean to demean in any way.  Just trying to figure out where it makes the most sense in my setup.  Honestly, I'll probably end up buying one in a couple months because I spend money on gun accessories like my wife does on jewelry and shoes...  But I'm on self-imposed probation if you will until I sell some spare mags and parts I no longer need to fund new upgrades, haha.

Bummer on the Mojo.  Was hoping that it would work...

I've been spoiled with my galil's sight and look to accordingly try to upgrade any AK that I touch similarly...  A flip peep sight -- one for 300m, one for 500m.  And then flip up night sights that are ideal for within 100m as well.
