My wife's first time shooting
« on: April 30, 2010, 06:16:04 AM »
I took my wife to the range yesterday for her first ever time shooting a hand gun.  I laid out my handguns and let her pick the one that felt best to her.  She chose a S&W model 36 snubbie.  Here is is target.  She got all 50 shots on the paper from 7 yards standing and shooting free hand.  I must say she was grinning from ear to ear the whole time and can't wait to go again so she can improve her aim.  Overall I think she did great.

Not bad for her first time.
Good to hear she enjoyed it and wants to return.

I have been an avid shooter forever now.

I talked to my wife about shooting and she finally said she wanted a gun of her own, so off to the gun store we went. The first thing she said is these are sure expensive! I could get a really nice purse or two for this price. So I had her hold several, asking how it felt in her hand, telling her now rack the slide. And she settled on a TCP Taurus 738, a 380 6 rnd pocket auto. Took her to the range and had her fire it off, 25 rnds later she was done for the day.

The next weekend we had a CHL class, she used this little mouse gun to qualify on a B27 target, modified scoring of 8 ring or better is 5, 7 ring is 4, and the rest of the black is 3. 20 rnds at 3yd, 20 rnds at 7yds, 10 rnds at 15, her score for 50 rnds 232.
Two more times to the range for 50-75 rnds each time, and her scores are consistent.

She then says to me, I think I need a bigger gun now; this one is fine for the purse. She chooses the CZ-75D compact 9mm, rubber grips. She no longer needed coaching to see how it felt in her hand, and was asking questions to the shop owner about night sight options. she then turns to me and says, it is so big it will not fit in my purse, she puts it inside then pulls it out and racks the side...see! Turns to the guy at the gun store we'll take it. Turns back to me we need to go to the "coach store"

Really wish I could get my girlfriend to go out and shoot.  She knows how but just doesn't interest her which makes it more difficult to pick up new equipment no matter what it is.
