Magwell/Grips Production Interest
« on: February 25, 2013, 09:43:46 PM »
Hey everyone! I'm new to the forum, and I have an idea for an improvement to the RAMI.

I like how the RAMI comes with the 14-rounder with a grip extension, but I don't like how it costs the 15-20 bucks more than a regular 75 compact mag.  So, with me being an engineer, I came up with this:

It is a one piece magwell/grip set that takes place of the grips on the RAMI. I came up with a prototype by gluing kydex pieces to the stock extension.  Since then I designed a one piece set in a 3d CAD program, and I am gauging the level of interest of getting them into production.

First more Pics:

As you can see from the last pic, my pinky sits on just the end of the grip.  The floorplate sits right underneath and makes for a snug - but comfy - grip.

If you would be interested I would like to know a few things:
-How much would you pay for an item like this?
-Would you be interested in custom textures/logo for a slightly higher price?
-What colors?

If you have any questions about the RAMI Gripwell (possible name?) feel free to PM me or post a reply.

So far I've shot it a few times, and it works great.  I love being able to use the cheaper/less bulky 75 compact mags.

Looks great hOOver! I typically buy one, maybe two extra mags, so if the cost of your grip extension is reasonable, it could make sense to go that way. You did a nice job on the prototype.

If you made one to take full sized mags I would be interested.

That is one of the coolest things I have seen someone come up with. I do not own a Rami but if i did that would definately be something i would want!

I would like it in a tactical black would pay 50 - 60 bucks for the gripwell. It is a great idea. If you put logo on it wouldn't matter at all to me. My conceal gun rarely is seen by anyone but me.

Great work that is impressive thinking!!!!

Thanks everyone to the replies!
@Groundhogwhacka:
It wouldn't be too hard to do one that takes full size mags. If the interest in these is high enough for me to justify startup costs, I could make that an option.

h00ver absolutely too cool for school!! Personally I'm good with my RAMI  factory .40 S&W mags that I've modified with the Pearce extension, but I can see that if you want more rounds this is an awesome idea!

Depending on the method of manufacturing, they will be made from either ABS or Nylon.  I'm leaning towards the ABS as there is more color options and I can keep the price of each gripwell down, there is just a much bigger startup cost.  If enough people are interested, I might look into doing a kickstarter page.

I think that was a fantastic idea you came up with. I would definitely be interested in a unit.
Please keep posting your progress or lack thereof.... either way.

Ii just got back from vacation, and I haven't been able to move forward. Based on the responses, I'm going to do a full size mag version as well as a compact size. I'm also comparing 2 3d printing websites for the best prices. Hopefully all this will be done in the next 2 weeks
