Rough Grip on P07
« on: March 15, 2013, 08:41:20 PM »
Does anyone else find the grip on the P07's to be rough ?  I am considering one (to keep my CZ75SA company), but when I handle it in the store, it hurts my hand.  No..I am not a baby and shoot several guns that beat me up a bit on recoil, but usually the grips don't hurt.  My other polymer guns are much smoother also.

For those who do find it irritating, do you use any add on grip sleeves?  Which ones work best.

At the range try shooting gloves.  For carry, I doubt you'd notice the grip textutre if you ever had to draw.  I suppose you could gently sand down the texture if it was truly a bother.  Easier to remove unwanted texture than to add desired texture.

You will get used to them I've had grittier grips.  Really like them myself.  Though do have Kalis hand do to having a wrench or ratchet in hand for atleast 40 hours a week.  You could wrap duct tape around them but probally not what many would do.

No doubt, they are aggressive grips.  Might give those shooting gloves a chance.  :)

The densely checkered stock plastic grips on my compacts aren't at all grippy.  It has prompted me to apply 3M Safety-Walk on the front and back straps of two, which helps (the other two will soon get this treatment).  And, I just swapped out the slippery plastic on the 75 C for a set of VZ Frags, which are infinitely grippier (and much better looking).

In short, too grippy is a problem I wouldn't mind having.

Yep.  Would rather have aggressive texture than a slippery gun. :)

The P-07 was made to work well with gloves, see the oversized trigger guard, etc.

Heck, I may have to go find some new gloves to give it a try.

I would imagine that you could pick up smoother after market grips for it. I was going to buy my friend's P01 before I found a P07 and I thought the same thing. I found several places online that sold really classy looking wooden grips.

The P-07 has a polymer frame and thus, polymer grips.  No grip panels that are able to switch out.  But there must be some creative wraps to play with if one must..

You can carefully sand down the aggressive ridges (done that before), but would recommend range gloves first as they can be "undone" unlike sanding.

You could buy some of the rubber type grip tape and cut it to fit the parts of the grip that give you the most problems.

I too felt the grip was too abrasive initially but after a few months I didn't give it a second thought. Still I have a Hogue universal slip-on grip on its way. I have large hands so I'm hoping this will give me a better grip. It was not ordered to address the abrasive grip.

Benq, what was your impression of the Hogue grip when you put it on?  I have large hands also.  How were the finger grooves?  Let me know.  Thanks

Most people who shoot either in combat or train for such go for much grippier textures, so the P07 is good progress in this regard.  Most gun manufacturers make guns to feel good in the shop or brief sessions on a static range, and that is what the average consumer likes.  If your hands are wet or bloody, etc., you would not want a slippery hogue grip on your gun.  The more aggressive texture may not feel good in the store, but it may be necessary one day.

I have put glock tape on the back of mine. Smoothed out the aggressive dimpling on my p07, and still has lots of grip. The p09 isn't nearly as aggressive, but I put it on also just to have more grip. By the way, the new p07 has interchangeable backstraps. Don't know if they changed the texture or not. Havent seen one yet.
