Got a vz 58... well vz 2000.
« on: May 05, 2013, 07:40:34 PM »
So,  I have desperately wanted one of these and recently got a brand new VZ 2000 in a trade in which I lost my Vepr 7.62x39 I had been modifying for some time.

VZ2000:

The Vepr I just said goodbye to:

I have yet to shoot it, but I am surprised that the OOW builds get so little attention in general. I've handled but never fired both the Century and dtechnik versions. I was holding out for a dtechnik despite many opportunities to buy a century, because I couldn't let myself "settle" for something "inferior" (I had a century built polish tantal that was pure garbage, though I'm sure many are satisfied with theirs.) I had roughly $800 or so into the vepr so I consider that to be the price I paid for the VZ2000. I was wary of buying something that wasn't a dtechnik, but when I actually got my hands on the rifle I was blown away. Here are some of my observations:

The park job is exquisite. It is as flawless as I have ever seen.

The action is the smoothest of any semiauto rifle I have handled. ar's, m1's, ak's whatever.

The quad rail is very nice. I haven't been able to find any info on the quad rail that came with it. It's marked "B&T". Very nice machining on the aluminum and enormous cooling cut-outs. It has tensioning screws in all the right places and is rock solid. Does anyone have any info on it or the maker "B&T"?

The gas block has a different finish on it that gives the gun a bit of character and a clean "aftermarket" or "custom built" look.

The only thing that bothers is a slight wobble in the steel folding stock when deployed. This doesn't matter since the stock will be replaced. The current one is way too small for my rather large reach, as I have to crane my head uncomfortably to get a cheek weld.

I've seen that the receiver is US made and the cuts in the receiver don't match the dtechnik ones, to which I say good, now I won't feel bad replacing the stock with something non-czech as well.

But does anyone else have any info/experience with these? Does anyone own a VZ2000 and a dtechnik?

That looks Nice!

Only BT I know of is Br?gger & Thomet. They make some nice stuff for Uzi, but don't know what they have for VZs.

Very Nice!  8)  Congratulations!  :)

I have a Century Vz2008, which is set up in a similar manner.

Thanks for the lead AZ_CZ. My google-fu yielded much better results after searching the full name Br?gger & Thomet. Looks like it's swiss made, but it also looks as if it might be adding some unnecessary weight. It also doesn't seem to be in production anymore or at least not imported into the states. This might be the excuse I need to get an IWD stock set...

B+T is a Swiss maker of silencers, accessories and also they make some firearms under licenses. Everything they make should be top quality, but extremely expensive.
It's the equivalent of Surefire over here I guess. Good stuff, but other companies make products of similar or better quality and for less $$$.

Updated pics:
I added an ace ultralight on a stormwerkz angled adapter. The length of pull is great, but it will be too long if I add a folding mechanism so I won't bother with it. Not too bad looking either. Hopefully I get to go shoot it this weekend.
