The elusive term you are seeking is "Michigan Pistol". Used to be 30 inches I believe but first of this year or around abouts it became 26 inch's. So previously (again I think it was 30)> if you had a rifle with an 16" barrel but it was under 30 inchs folded or collapsed it had to be registered as a pistol and now it is shortened to 26. We dont have SBR's here that I know of. I could be wrong but my understanding is were not an SBR state or I would most likely know people doing the paperwork to get it done.. Some may ponder what about all the previous versions of mich pistols now that they changed the law?. As I understand it, those are sort of grandfathered in. And why else would a rifle be registered as a handgun otherwise so its easy enough to prove.. By the way those become elligible for CPL (Concealed Pistol License, Michigans CCW)> because they are considered pistols here. Not sure about the actual folded length of a VZ mine is a fixed stock, would have to measure one I suppose.. perhaps a stock folder could have a 1/8" nub of weld added someplace in the hinge to make it long enough? Ha.. just my sick mind working. If you had a legal permanently attached muzzle brake, that would make it over 26 folded and it would still be a rifle.
