Cole's cz83's
« on: July 19, 2013, 03:41:22 PM »
I was cruising through the latest batch of CZ-83s on gunbroke last night, trying to keep off the go broke button, (buy it now), when I beheld that which I didn't know existed- a non import marked czech 83. So I bought it. Fell off the wagon... aarrgghh. I just sold a glock, made just enough room in the safe to actually get fingers in there alongside the guns.... Oh well. Anyway, is there actually any premium on a non import marked CZ, I mean all the other guns I know that sport this distinction are worth at least a little more, but would it make any difference in the CZ world? I know it LOOKS nicer with none of that BS on the slide. I really prefer what PW used to do with the tiny marks by the trigger guard. CDI isn't really that obtrusive like some of them, but less is more in my book. Now I'm sitting here waiting for coles to actually let me check out- I thought they were supposed to be speedy?  Oh well, it's not like I'm going to find any .380 on anyone's shelves anyway.  :(  2huge

I really am disgusted with coles, I bought the gun thursday night, and I'm still not allowed to do the checkout thing, my ffl wants to know what the holdup is, because I emailed him thursday night, so far I had one auto-email from gunbroke, NOTHING from coles, and I emailed them fri. afternoon asking why no checkout. I have bought guns on gunbroke before, and have had one bad experience- but 3 good ones, It can work well. I don't know why some sellers drop the ball like this. It's not what I expected after hearing guys on here talk about them, and their feedback is good. I know they have 5 days -calendar, not workdays to make contact, and of course gunbroke assumes it's the buyer that will fail in communication, so the wording is skewed that way. At this point I'm assuming I'll they won't email until monday afternoon, or even tuesday. Now I gotta find some .380 dies- More aaarrggh!

Coles Distributing is Open Mon-Thurs 8am-4pm (central).  That may explain the delayed response?

Their phone number is: 270-622-3569.  I have had repeated good success by e-mailing them a signed copy of my 01FFL transferring dealer's license as an attachment, followed up the next day with a phone call to pay by credit card, or e-mailing them to let them know I am sending a USPS money order as payment.

They have been a top notch seller with me through about a half a dozen transactions so far.  Things like this sure can be frustrating, but do not give up just yet.  See how it goes on Monday.

Just a follow-up, coles emailed on monday, I called in my credit card, and a near new cz83 showed up today. grips are scratched a little, and bluing is 98% no rust, no pitting, and no import marks. I don't know how these guns last overnight, unless the .380 scares them away in droves? It does cost more, but I found some federal for 19. a box locally, it's just that 9mm lugers were in wallyworld(more federal) 22 for 100 rds. so it is more expensive to shoot. Hopefully some cheap steelcased will show up before the feds run out :) Or maybe my dies will show up- I have 300 once fired brass already. Now I need to find a ridiculous deal like this on a 45!

Range report, I wish I knew how to post pics- this cz83 will shoot the wings off a fly, way more accurate than my cz82! I was popping clay pigeons at 75 feet one handed-sweet! Love the little bugger, now I can't wait for the dies, I'm going to be shooting this way too much. I know I'm gonna go broke feeding it federal!

A couple of months ago I was looking for a defense gun for an older family member, and the CZ83 caught my eye as an option when I saw the ones being sold by Cole's for such a good price. I took a gamble and ordered one of his best-condition specimens, advertised in 95% condition. It didn't disappoint, and in fact not only was it in the same shape as promised but I couldn't believe how accurate it was. The intrinsic accuracy is very good, but more importantly it's so easy to point and shoot, even weak-handed. As might be expected I had trouble wanting to give it up, so I went back on Gun-broke and ordered another. There weren't any more 95% examples available at the time so I settled on an 85% one instead. There is slightly more finish wear with the second one and the grips are noticeably more worn, but both faults were compensated by an unbelievably buttery-smooth double-action trigger, far better than on the first one I bought. While both pistols are mechanically just as accurate, I can do much better shooting with the "lesser" example especially in DA mode. As an added bonus it isn't import-marked either just like 2huge's, plus the finish on the slide is a bit smoother.

My experience with Coles was very good, as the first pistol was shipped right away as soon as I called them with payment info. They dropped the ball with the second one, but when I called a second time they got it right out for me. Looking at the sheer number of guns he lists for sale I think he and his wife simply get buried in orders and sometimes doesn't get them out as fast as some people expect. They're still good people to do business with and I recommend grabbing one of these CZ83's before they reach the bottom of the barrel and the nice ones are all gone.

I appreciate the link, but the prices wiill never be as good as wallyworld at 17/ 50 or 18 bucks for federal at fleet farm, w/no shipping. LOwest per rd. I've seen on gunbot is close, but you have to ship it.

I see. You went from "can't find ammo" to "can't find ammo cheap". I guess that's progress!
