Convert a 97 to 10mm
« on: August 18, 2013, 06:39:59 AM »
Has anyone ever converted a 97 to 10mm? Can it be done?
I have a hard time believing the frame of the gun couldn't stand up to the high pressure loads. That gun is a beast.
I know there's one on the way from CZ but lord knows how many years it will take them to put it on the market, and then even when they do they will be impossible to find. Ain't nobody got time for that! ;D
Any thoughts, fellow radicals?

CZUSA gunsmiths built one using a modified SP01 top and 97 frame. Sone minimal reporting on it .

I wasn't born in America, but I got here as fast as I could.

I don't see how the 97's slide will work on a conversion.  The breech face is narrower on a .40.  May not have sufficient extractor hook engagement as well.  Then there's the magazine.

The project gun used a modified SP01 slide and  IIRC used a Tanfoglio mag .

Why not just wait, save your money, and see if this is the "real deal":

Would converting a .40 TS not be a simpler path?

magazine and frame are too short for 10mm.

Well, I got that, chief.  ;)

But CZ needs to step it up on this roscoe before that Turkisk outfit, SARs, beats them to it when EAA begins importing their K2 pistol in 10mm.  In fact, EAA says some 10mm K2s are already in the country. The .45acp K2 was just given a very positive review in the Sept. 2013 issue of Am. Rifleman
I just received 5 10mm mags marked "10mm K2," made by Meccgar, and which are intended to fit that gun and Tanfoglio's 10mm Witness line-up, which EAA also imports.

That leaves CZ at the end of the line in 10mm land.

I'm trying not to think about everything you just posted. But I know. I have a 45 acp Sarsilmaz and a CZ 97.

It seems a little odd to me that the 10mm SARK2 mags would fit the Witness.  The Witness in .45 holds 10; k2 holds 14.  It seems like that would be significantly different grip dimensions.  Of course, I suppose there's nothing stopping them from changing the dimensions for the 10mm version so it matches the Witness.

Also, any chance of you checking to see how many rounds those Mecgar 10mm K2 mags will hold?   If the Witness holds 10 in .45 and 15 in 10mm, and the K2 holds 14 in .45, I would expect the K2 to hold in the neighborhood of 19 in 10mm, assuming they kept the dimensions the same.
