Tristar T-100

Just snapped up a T-100 in black for a great price ($279 plus shipping and transfer on my end puts it at $330).

Anyway, it's for my son's birthday so I have only inspected and cleaned it up, no range reports yet. Some may have seen my thread about what to get him while on a budget, I had a motorcycle for sale and collected those funds recently so he's getting this and then we'll be going to the NRA Basic Pistol course as well.

I expect some accuracy issues at first... noticed some burrs at the muzzle that could have been cleaned up a bit. I suspect it's from the crowning process after the barrels are cut to length, I'm sure 50 rounds of FMJ will clear it right out. Aside from that, the thing appears very well machined and the sear cage looks much cleaner/smoother than my SP-01.

I have to admit that I wanted to check one of these out for a potential carry gun for myself once IL gets the new permit system sorted out, my current plan is a bobtail commander though. If it shoots as well as it looks, I may have to grab another one or a C-100 for carry purposes. My first choice (if I buy a new carry gun) would be a CZ Compact L but I have no idea when I'll be able to afford one..... I also want to find a scale and see the weight difference between my 1911 and the Tristar when both are fully loaded, I'm betting the Tristar will still be a bit lighter.

One thing I noticed shooting mine is how sharp the bottom front of the trigger guard is. When shooting the recoil can really cause it to abrade your left index finger if you have it in front of the trigger guard like I do when shooting right handed. I would like to round it off a little but I don't think the alloy would take either cold blue or alumablack well. Have to research that.

Too many folks at the b-day party so it was a safety concern. Since then school, football and such have been in the way. Not to mention he doesn't live with me...

At any rate, I remain very impressed with the gun after really inspecting it and some dry firing. Enough so that I did paperwork on a C-100 today. It was a bit more expensive @ $365 out the door but its a local shop so no shipping or extra transfer fees.

Being IL, I won't pick it up until Tuesday. But I'll have time to throw some rounds down range after work.

Finally jr made some time to shoot the other day! He did just fine but didnt want his pic or his target posted lol. He kept everything on a paper plate at 10 yds.

How do the two guns compare? I bough t a T-120 a few weeks ago and I like it pretty well. One issue is I believe the front site is proprietary. I'd like to have a fiber optic site.

I think the recoil on the C-100 seems a bit more snappy, but not much different. I had also fired my SP-01 first, so any alloy frame gun would likely feel snappy after shooting a big all steel gun.

The T-100 has larger dots on the sights, much quicker to acquire. I think you're correct about the T-100 sights being unique to that gun but not sure.

I hate, HATE the plastic grips on the TriStars and will get some rubber CZ compact grips at a minimum.

Both exhibit less camming of the hammer in SA than my SP-01 and SA feels a touch smoother in general on the TriStars.

Jr prefers the T-100 looks and the fish scale serrations. I think it looks neat but a lack of available holsters steered me to the C model for CCW.

Any Holster that will fit the MRI Baby Desert Eagle Pistols will very likely fit the T-100.

Months ago, before it was clear that Cz75 compact grips worked on the T-100, I bought some cheap...inexpensive...EBay wood grips because I personally prefer the look and feel of wood. It did allow me to slightly reshape the trigger finger area to get better fit to my grip. No regrets.

After 800 or so rounds the DA has smoothed out, SA is nice enough but I may tinker there anyway. In looking over the internals when I took it apart to ease up safety effort (great improvement on whole pistol handling) I was astounded at the lack of machining marks. One rainy day I might touch up rub surfaces but unneeded. It arrived tight and smooth, it is now tight and smoother.

I put bright white dots on rear sights and an outrageous red/orange on front. I am not the least bit interested in changing either end...which is good...because it is not possible without several pounds of money for smithing. It shoots better than I can now.

Oh, Jerico 941fs ( or call it baby eagle or late for dinner or whatever) kydex fits perfectly, so leather and cloth certainly will

Hey, I was just wondering if you had any updated impressions of these guns now that some time has passed. Specifically, I'm wondering how you'd compare them to one another at this point. Which do you prefer? Are there any smaller details that one may not notice at first that have become more apparent since last September?

I'm considering buying one of the two models. I know the C-100 is about 1.75 oz lighter and has a .2" longer barrel. I imagine these are negligible differences, but points for the C. The T-100 looks like it has slightly more space on the grip to fit all my fingers. Is that true? The T-100 looks "cool" while the C-100 looks more "classic" to me. I like both the Jericho and CZ looks, so there's not clear winner based on these factors.

How do you feel about the different styles for the slide release and safety? Is either more practical for use or comfortable for carry? Noticeable at all? Does either gun just "feel" better to use? Is either one balanced better than the other?

I can't tell any significant difference in the grip lengths and they use the same magazines.

I installed CGW sights on the C-100 and it made a very big difference. The T-100 had slightly better factory sights, as I mentioned.

I prefer the looks of the CZ P-01 over both of the Tri-star pistols, but I really like the slide serrations of the T model. They are very easy to grasp.

As for the controls, I like the slide lock on the T but the safety lever of the C....go figure. I tend to run my thumb high and the C seems more natural.

I haven't concealed carried either gun, but I suspect the C would be better IWB as it's thinner at the muzzle. No notable balance differences between the two, at least not to me.

I do like both guns for sure but I admit that I want a CZ Custom  Compact L. Can't afford one without selling stuff though. (My C-100 is in the classified section, with all the extra sights if you're interested)

Check out the extra thin aluminum grips at CZ Custom.
They come in checkered, and smooth with inlayed skate board tape.
Brings them into a reasonable carry width!!!
