VZ 52
« on: September 01, 2013, 06:57:54 PM »
Found a nice VZ 52 rifle at Cabela's near Dallas today.  From the look of the stock, it has been through hell, but it is probably in decent mechanical condition.  Cabela's doesn't want a reputation for selling unusable fireaems. I recently bought a Russian Mosin Nagant there, and it was in very good condition.

This rifle has no importer's mark, but It does have Ceska Sbrojovska on it.  The rear sight is very similar to the Mosin.

The price was either $549 or $589.  If I can get away with buying another antique rifle (questionable), it will be another Mosin, but this is an intriguing rifle.  Someone please buy it.

Cabela's in Buda had one last month. Has it been rechambered for 7.62X39? The original 7.62X54 is unobtanium so far as I know.

I would love to add a VZ 52 rifle to my collection. Problem is, 7.62x54 ammo is impossible to find (although I once found a listing for reloading dies) and I couldn't bring myself to convert one to 7.62x39 because I'm a purist.

Oops. My mistake. The rifle in question is not a VZ 52 at all, but a VZ 24, in 8x57.  Not as bad looking as I remembered it, but has been around the block.
