Confused about the various CZ 75 Compact models.
« on: September 02, 2013, 06:04:27 PM »
I'm planning on my next pistol purchase to be either a full sized CZ 75B or CZ 75 Compact. I kinda sorta have the full sized line figured out, but I have more confusion over the various CZ 75 Compact models. I've noticed on this forum there is a "The Original CZ 75 Compact Club" thread for some older discontinued model, but nothing dedicated to the newer one that I could find. Which thread here does this model fall under?

1. I have one of CZ-USA's catalogs in front of me, and the one that I really want is the CZ 75D Compact PCR, but I think I've read  somewhere that it is only available in Europe? Not sure why it would be in a CZ-USA catalog if that's the case.

2. The CZ 75 P-01 is my second choice, as I don't really want the rail on a carry gun (rails are OK for a HD gun). However, the NATO specs and testing this model went through are impressive to say the least. According to the CZ-USA catalog, it is one of the few NATO spec pistols available tot he general public. I don't know how much hype or truth there is to this,  or whether the other CZ compact models are equally as good.

3. Next I see the CZ 75 Compact SDP, which seems to be a special custom job which is probably expensive and not something I'd want as a CCW at this time. Maybe in the future as I gain more experience?

4. Lastly there is the "regular" CZ 75 compact with the steel frame and manual safety but I'd really prefer a decocker model as my CZ 83 already has a similar set up and I want a different operating system to gain the experience and to keep things interesting. I also don't think I want to carry anything heavier then my CZ-83 at this time, and the steel frame CZ 75 Compact looks to weigh more then that pistol. The only plus side of the standard version for me is that it comes with the plastic grips, as I don't like rubber grips on my CCW guns, but I could easily replace those on the other models for plastic or wooden grips.

So basically for me it comes down to the CZ 75D Compact PCR or the CZ 75 P-01. If the PCR model is available in the USA, that's the one I want. If not,  the P-01 is a strong candidate. Your knowledge, inputs and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Can't go wrong with the P 01. It is a very good weapon! Great right out of the box!

The PCR is available in the U.S. Impact guns has them for around $590 as well as the P-01 for $560. Looks like the PCR is out of stock at Buds but P-01 is available.

Every single firearm I've ever been interested in has been "out of stock" at Bud's whenever I've checked. I guess I either have really good taste and want the same guns everyone else does, or I'm just plain unlucky, but I don't get all the hoopla and raves about Bud's. Their supposedly cheap prices are ultimately useless to me if they never have what I want.  >:(

At least I now know I can get a PCR model somewhere in this country, so thanks for that info milq!

You have the models pegged. I find the CZ Custom shop's page a handy reference,

http://czcustom.com/CZ-UB-USA-Factory-Pistols.aspx

The P-01 and the PCR are both great guns and share internals and slide. The frames are both alloy and manufactured the same way (internet myth that they are made different) The rails and slide stop dimple are the big diffrences. IMO the PCR is the perfect carry gun. It has an alloy frame, low profile sights, load chamber indicator and a thinner profile.

CZ availability for any model is problematic right now, but they are worth waiting for.

Apologies Stuart, I thought that I saw PCRs out of stock when I looked but it was P-01.

This reminds me of a similar myth that will not die that applies to vinyl record collecting. There is a British company called "Decca" that made some of the very first and best sounding stereo classical LP's during the late 50's early 60's. It's subsidiary for the USA was called "London", but both were made in the UK at the same factories except with different labels. There are many who still swear that the "Deccas" were made better then the "Londons", which the company has always vehemently denied.

Don't know if there is such a thing, but the PCR seems to come pretty darn close. The only flaws for me are the rubber grips (which are easily replaceable) and maybe the LCI, which I've heard may possibly effect reliably (or is this another myth?) and which I really don't need or want anyway. I have to ask why the Nato approved P-01 did without the LCI?

This seems to be the case with a lot of guns I've been looking at lately. I waited a while for my NOS CZ 83 to come up for sale. I will be happily content with that until if and when a new CZ falls into my hands.  ;)

You broke this down pretty simply Stuart, thanks. What is the difference between "CZUSA via the Custom Shop" and just the regular Custom Shop? Doesn't everything come from the Czech Republic via CZ-USA?

Also, when you say you have the PCR's in stock, is this directly through CZ-USA?

Yes....all the gun come into the country via CZ-USA. they are the importer for the product line.
The Compact L is gun that was special ordered by CZC. So the shop has built a couple of version for CZ-USA distribution. While there is another version that is sold through the shop.

PCRs, standard factory gun that we have in stock.

The PCR is available in the USA. I ordered mine from Bud's and took delivery from my local FFL dealer a few days ago. They appear to be out-of-stock now.

And I do have PCRs available at this time.

If you want a PCR give Stuart a call. I bought my 75 BD POLICE and my 612 HD shotgun from him. He will treat you right.  8)
