I shoot low, maybe an inch or so at defensive distances. I started off with a 6 o'clock sight picture, which is what I was taught, 50 years ago, as the way one uses open sights.
I happened to see a poster on the wall of the gun range showing sight picture 2 below as the correct sight picture:

This makes sense, as it is independent of the size of the bullseye for accuracy. Perhaps my pistols are set up to use sight picture 3, because I'm still low, but the idea of obscuring the target with the sights doesn't seem right.
Furthermore, my sights align differently when using the tops vs the 3 dots ? the muzzle is slightly higher using the tops.
