My new Kadet kit came today.
The firing pin has a slight bevel on one side.
Have you seen this?

Not Schmeky. But....

If you look closely you will see that the bevel is at the bottom of the wedge of the FP. The area of the cartridge that would be contacted by the missing bit has little or no primer material so it is removed to concentrate the impact in the area that will do the most good.

75Plus-
Thanks for the answer. I did think it was there for a reason, but I was not 100% sure. I usually trust the factory.
Your explanation was good enough for me.

Just stumbled across this.  I picked up a used Kadet kit and even with the factory mainspring in my Compact it's failing to fire about 1 out of every 10.  With a 13lb mainspring in my full size 75 about 50% fail.  If an extended firing pin/spring combo can be produced that will work with a 13lb mainspring I WILL buy it.  Yesterday.

My experience with my new Kadet kit:

Once I got the slide to work smoothly with the frame I had no failure to feed or cycle issues and only failure to fire issuse due to weak firing pin strikes.  I am working with the same problem it seems most have and have put the stock main spring back in.  It improved but I still had a failure rate of 1 in 10?  I have tried to get more impact on the cartridge by putting a counterbore (.015") in the firing pin stop to allow the firing pin protrude out more toward the hammer.  This didn't fix the problem and was only a marginal improvement.  So now my next step was to examine the firing pin strike of the CZ compared to that of a Ruger 22/45.  Both shot the same ammo side by side with no FTF issues with the Ruger.

After looking at the firing pin strikes of the Ruger, I  noticed they are shorter in length and concentrated on the rim. To concentrate the firing pin strike I have now increased the bevel at the bottom of the firing pin to shorten the strike length and direct the firing pin energy more toward the rim.  I also am cutting a couple of coils off the firing pin spring to reduce the preload weight on the firing pin.  I will try running the gun next weekend and let you know how it runs.  The Kadet kit is very accurate and a great accessory, I just want to get it to run cheap ammo like the Ruger.  FYI-I had very little FTF issues shooting CCI stuff.

steerclr,

There are some issues with the Kadet, through no fault of your own, you have not observed or discovered yet.  CGW is thinking about offering in the near future a "Kadet Service" that will fix these issues.

We have pin pointed why the Kadet has a propensity to have light strikes, sometimes even with the stock hammer spring.  The Kadet Service would allow hammer springs of 13#'s or less to work reliably, and would involve more than just an extended FP and spring.

Just in the contemplation stage right now.

schmecky,

please add the 'kadet service package', - seems you'd have ample supply of business in just this area, not to mention the marketing factor for all your other upgrades!

cheers

Hmmm....
Not much of this is new
Joe(75plus) has been doing a lot of this for quite some time now
A few Member have already had Joe "FIX" their Kadet
I believe JoeL has had the work done on his Kit, so ask him how well Joe's work is
So tell me again how Trump was worse then the 8 years before .... AND what's coming after HIM !

Can you elaborate and/or direct me to a thread discussing the changes made (aside from an extended FP)?

Just trying to give credit, where credit is due ! ! !  8)

There are a couple different Threads Joe(75plus) or JoeL has started, spelling out the different issues and the ideas / fixes Joe has developed
Other that asking Joe directly, here are a couple threads just for starters:
Joe's(75Plus) findings on the Hammer vs Kadet Slide overlap (note the date)
http://www.czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=58854.0
JoeL on Joe's(75Plus) Broken Roll Pin Fix
http://www.czfirearms.us/index.php?topic=58673.msg377806#msg377806
As for the Extended Firing Pin idea, there are threads as old as the Klub on this issue

There are a lot more if you do a search here within the Kadet Klub
OR, as I said....ask Joe(75plus) or JoeL
Personally, I don't think there are any two people with more insight into the Kadet and its issues than the two of them...not even at CZUB
