Trigger job
« on: December 07, 2013, 05:18:54 PM »
Hello all, I have a Tristar T-120 and would like to get a trigger job; I am wondering if anyone can point me toward a gunsmith locally or otherwise?

+1 on CGW I ordered the spring kit. Made a definite difference on the Da trigger pull, lighter and smoother.

While the CGW kit helps a bunch, does CGW DO CANIKs?  It looks like they do NOT from the web site.

Be aware.  If you want to do a complete trigger job, and take everything apart, getting it BACK together again can be difficult.  I don't have the equipment to restake a SOLID trigger pin myself, and to me this is risky business. What you CAN do is use a combinations of SLAVE pins, and a 20mm roll pin - it should work.  LOTS of trial and error taught me this.  There are a couple of things I don't like about the Canik - inability to use the CZ Kadet, use of odd pins, and of course the 1 year warranty.  BUT - I REALLY LIKE the trigger reset - WOW!  Very nice.  Also - making an alloy compact CZ with a manual safety, south of $500 before CZ did this is a kick in the pants. ::)

CZ Custom did a couple. Specs here:

I checked these out and they are very nice. Trigger and sights were a great improvement. Not sure they are in the Canik business, but they would a good start.

I'm getting ready to tear down my L-120, I thought the trigger pin was a roll pin? What pin is staked? are you referring to the staked hammer pin? sorry for the questions.

I Was going to use a slave pin and install a CGW reduce power trigger spring and floating trigger pin when I do the takedown and polish job. Not replacing the sear or hammer (yet)

The hammer pins and trigger pin in my c100 weren't staked like my cz-85 was. So it was much easier to deal with.

Another Gunsmith to consider is Richard Dettelhouser who also works with Cz and Tanfoglio Pistols.  http://canyoncreekcustom.com/

My C100 trigger pin was also not staked quite that hard, and it pushed out with a punch by hand.

The problem comes in re-installation.  If you leave one end slightly burred, you have much trouble reinstalling the trigger assembly and lining up the holes.  Otherwise, I suppose you can sand down the end, slide it in (using slaves) and then stake it gently.

I prefer a roll pin - in this case 2mm because it seems to slide in easily enough but generates its 'own staking'.  For some reason, the CZ is much easier to use a roll pin on, but again, you don't have to, as the CGW trigger pin is a dream.

i know this thread is a little old, but looking to order the CGW spring and pin kit, has anyone noticed any lightstrike or any other decrease in reliability after installation of the softer springs???
i would like a lighter trigger but would rather not impact its reliability

No light strikes here. #13 is generally a safe weight even against harder CCI primers. When you start playing with the #11.5 then an extended firing pin is a good investment.

Check with David at CGW. I would suggest installing a TR-Pin  removable floating trigger pin and also get the RP-TRS reduced power trigger return spring. Both are easy installations.

Sirs, I too ordered the 3 springs and 2 (hardened) pins packages from CGW. I ordered the kit before I received my gun based the valuable information I got from this forum. Thanks!
Spot on gentlemen! The double action is a bit too stiff. I will install the new springs and the (hardened) pins.

Can someone direct me to a Canik specific installation tutorial? (Do I need to make one?)
By the way, The Canik Shark FC is a definite keeper! First trip to the range, 4 shooters were consistently nailing a 1 liter soda bottle @ 60 yards.
