Anyone ever order from Zahal before?
« on: December 30, 2013, 07:17:18 AM »
I see that they seem to have a decent amount of VZ parts in stock but I also see they are not located in the U.S. and I'm always a little leery with ordering something outside the U.S. So has anyone ever ordered anything from them before and if so were there any issues?

Thanks

Not trying to be a dick. But you could try searching the forum as well as searching on engines like Google. There's plenty to read through.

Personally I'd avoid them.

What are you looking to get?

Their prices are pretty high for what they are.  You're better off doing western union with the VZ58 parts website or searching out individuals parts here.  Primarily they're selling Mako products or reselling other products with significant markups...

I've gotten a few things off of Zahal. Shipping is not spectacularly fast, but if you need something that only they sell, go for it- they are reputable.

x2 here, vz58 pistol grip free shipping, Fobus and IMI holsters with no problems. Not the fastest shipping so keep that in mind. Zahal has got to follow through if it wants to develop a solid American market and bad internet reviews would hamper that.

The appear to have the Ambi mag release in stock, the vast majority of the others who sell VZ parts and accessories didn't seem to have them. With that said I have now found 2 places in Canada that appear to have just the extended mag releases in stock which would work and not be half way around the world for shipping.

Thanks for the replies

I personally don't prefer the ambi mag releases.  I like the Anton?n Zendl GunExpert mag release and bolt release at http://www.vz58rifle.com/.  Also at http://www.zendl.cz/index.php/produscts/doplnkysa58
Look at the photo gallery on vz58 rifle.  In particular this one:

The only reason I see for ambi mag release is if you're a left hand shooter.  The ambi sticks out further and appears to have a greater risk for getting caught up on thick brush and dropping the mag than the Zendl offering (why the trigger guard on the vz58 is designed as it is in the first place)...  Also don't think you can run both the tactical bot release and ambi mag release Zahal is selling.   You either need to go with the Zendl or NEA/Neit setups to run both at the same time (IMO, you need the tactical bolt more than the mag release, but YMMV).

The BC Tactical system is the most COST-effective I've seen at $100 for both: http://www.wolverinesupplies.com/details/13788/BC-Tactical-CZ858VZ58-Bolt-and-Mag-Release-Combo.aspx

The Zendl looks to be the most functional for right hand shooters, while the Neit/NEA for lefties.

I also run the galil, and the mechanics of the Zendl is part of the reason why I prefer it (thought I should clarify that):

Only reason I see for the extra long mag release like the Dlask are if you have/are mechanically trained to use your spare magazine to release your empty: http://youtu.be/I3XCMNYMHFM?t=5m9s

RSR, thanks for the info that helps me out A LOT I did find the set @ BC Tactical and that's the one I'm currently considering. I never knew the bolt release & ambi mag release wouldn't work together glad I know before spending the money. Also I see what you are saying as a right handed shooter I would more than likely never use my right hand to release the mag as I have become accustom to operating the stock mag release with my left hand.

I will more than likely go ahead and order the two from BC Tactical just for the simple fact I seem to get thing from Canada much faster than from Europe. I once ordered a gun belt from South Africa (I didn't realize at the time they were also based in S.A. as their sight was quoted in U.S. $) anyway it took like 3 months for it to arrive and thank God it was fine as I can't imagine trying to ship something back to S.A.

Thanks again for your help and input.

You bet.  Personally, I think the tactical bolt release is more important from an operational/speed/shooter mechanics perspective than the mag release.

Either the BC or Dlask extended bolt releases will allow easier left side access to the bolt release and/or the AK mag release using the mag in your left hand.

The Zendl Czech offering allows you to use your trigger finger to drop the mag.  Mechanically, not too far off from an AR 15 mag release if you work cross platforms.

The challenge is that when wanting both ambi mag release and tactical bolt that you need to order a pair that was made to go together else they both might not fit.  Notice that both the NEA and Zendl are thinner steel than the Zahal ones.

Same thought beyond the ambi safety too -- you want it on the left hand side so that you can use your right hand thumb (right hand shooters) to manipulate.   CZs in stock form are best set up for lefties IMO.
(Corwin in CA has best prices I've seen -- but doesn't work on the Czechpoint guns [despite all the posturing, they're/their sporter receiver is less than 5% of the international market... -- Canadians despite the mag bans get the CZ built CZ 858 whose receiver is more similar to the Century guns than the CSA ones...]).
