Picked up a new 2013 VZ2008 and I found that I had a sticky bolt and no tab on the carrier.

After it shooting flawlessly, I was still worried about the potential for the trigger reset issue.  I shot slow and fast and still it was flawless.  So I took it apart and noticed that the bolt sticks if you pull it back ride it back slowly.

Once apart, I noticed that the bolt carrier was hanging on the disconnector when slowly released.  For a minute I thought of smoothing out the sharp angles on it, then I talked myself out of dremel gunsmithing...thank god:)

I read about the disconnector and the tab fix in many threads, so i decided to look at original vz58 disconnector.

I found this

I compared that to my century and I found this

They are different, the century disconnectors angled edges vs the round top vz58 diisconnector replace the need for a tab on the carrier...it actually looks alot like my M&P 40 firing pin block safety...

On the 3 VZ2008's that I have inspected, none have the tab.

The different disconnector is probably why.

If your implying this is only an issue with Century's because you say they use a different disconnector that is wrong. All semi auto VZ clones regardless of manufacture have this issue including Czechpiont. The tabbed bolt carrier is Czechpiont's and was Century's solution for a while. So "a different disconnector" may not be the issue or the solution to this problem.

Well, I have read on this forum that CP has a patent and  on the tab and I just recently found out that vz58rifle.com makes a disconnector that supposedly solves the problem, so yes I am saying that this is a solution with a "different disconnector. "

This thread is for those who were concerned that they lack a tab on the carrier and provides more detail that the standard "you may or may not develop the gremlin" response that I saw during my search. I really enjoy my century, so no hating involved.

And in my rifle it is not I say they use a different disconnector...they actually do:)

My Ohio Ordnance VZ2000 had an issue similar to this. The radius of the US-made disconnector was not correct. It caused the bolt carrier to push it on the way forward, causing the sear to drop striker.

Check out vzrifle.com and look at the disconnector and the description.  I think they are a ok right from CAI now...I still have not had an issue...I will update this thread if I do.

I just received a new VZ2008 from Century Arms part number RI2149-X. Receiver is marked VZ2008 Sporter Paragon MFG Inc. Westfield, MA. The bolt carrier is not tabbed and the trigger dis-connector tab has not been modified. Only visible modification is that the bolt carrier hump has been rounded off in the area that contacts the dis-connector. I contacted Century Customer support and asked them how they are addressing the miss-fire (gremlin) problem. The person I spoke with was not aware of any problems with this rifle and told me to contact their Tech Desk. Sent off an email and haven't heard back yet. Don't want to shoot it until it is repaired. This is a design flaw that needs to be addressed.

Have you had the issue? If not you may not ever have it.

Haven't fired it yet but it really doesn't matter. This is defective by design. Adding a Tab to the bolt carrier is the only 100% fix for this. That is why CSA does it. I'm hoping Century agrees and repairs it.

I'm not a gunsmith...but I did sleep a ta Holiday Inn last night.  ;D  I got my VZ yesterday and had to check it out thoroughly. After reading about all this tabbing crap. I spoke to a rep at AIM and he assured me these new VZ's would have no issues.
This is my 1st VZ but I'm very familiar with firearm and modding them. I noticed right away No Tab. Then I checked to see how everything works. JoeSmith is correct in that the disconnector hitting the bottom of the bolt carrier makes the tab a non issue...IMO. If you ever developed a dropped striker on an unfired round... you would have a broken or malfunctioning disconnect. Be happy and Fire away!

This is why I asked if he had the issue. It is my opinion that Century no longer tabs bolt carriers because they have addressed the issue in another way.
