Debating whether to grab one of these from Aim, or a well priced milled Polish AK that I found local. Who currently offers the tabbing service, should it be required?

That milled polish sounds interesting...how much do they go for?  Looked up some pics and they look really nice.

They haven't been available since about 2009 I want to say. Back then, they were $600 in a world of sub $400 WASR rifles. Now people generally want about $1000 for them, but I found one for $700. If I can pick it up, I will use the money I saved to have it hot blued instead of the park that century's contractor put on them.

But then the VZ is really really cheap.

Duracoat or other finish over park is a good and possibly cheaper option too...

Sorry if this is off topic...

C.A.I or  Czech vz.58 for that matter aren't Parkerized.
vz.58's were painted with that dark gray paint just
like on the magazines.

The C.A.I VZ2008 are Teflon Coated. I know this because I asked
them about it. What type is used was not know by the person I talked to.
There are about 5 different types that are widely used today.

I just recently had my VZ2008 Bead Blasted and  Parkerized for $135
it turned out really good but...

The Cast metal parts on a vz.58 can have problems being Parkerized.
The metal will look Red or the Metal won't blacken and will take on
a Sand color appearance. Special attraction needs to be taking in Metal
preparation so Parkerizing covers the metal 100% and the surfaces look black.

I would imagine this is why CSA with Czech Point, Duracoats their US sold vz.58.
That and to make make more money.

I'm still sort of kicking myself for not taking pictures to show people but
when I first got my rifle back from my local gunsmith I was
not happy and the last thing on my mind was taking pictures to show people.
It went right back and I made them go over it again.

I guess this all depends on what you want. And I wanted a top of the line finish.  ;D

Back In 2009 Dan from czechpoint comparing the vz2008 and the czechpoint vz mentioned that the vz2008 is parkerized.....why the switch?  the first batch of vz58s from dan were the gray color which was baked on, most of which were to CZ USA

That I don't know. The early Century vz58 had US made millspec
receivers ( basic  semi auto copy ) and may have been Parkerized but I
doubt that because it would increase the cost and Century wanted to keep
them very affordable but it is possible.

Century however may have done that in the past but they got sued
and had to have a different receiver made that is a little bit different.
And that may have resulted also in them using Teflon to cut back on cost.
This is all speculation as only they ( both Companies ) know the what really
happen.

BTW there is NOTHING wrong with Teflon. So to people who will read this in the
future after searching Google...don't get your panties in a bunch over this. ::)
The VZ2008 is a good Rifle.

I don't know about the 2008. But the CSA/Czechpoint guns were available in gray up until about 2-3 years ago. They stopped doing the gray per Dan for two main reasons at least. 1. People here prefer black to the gray. 2. And black is a lot easier to match/apply than gray.

I'm not sure what kind of paint is used specifically, but I don't believe it do be Duracoat. Based mainly on my observations of durability and other things. Duracoat is a good product. But it's not GunKote or Cerakote. It doesn't say on the Czechpoint site. But under products descriptions they used to say Gunkote was the paint used. I do suppose they may switch coatings from time to time. And Duracoat could have been used. Also. The CSA guns are phosphated underneath on the metal before painting.
