HAJO Sight Broken Hinge Pin
« on: January 17, 2014, 10:45:28 PM »
I had a problem with mine this afternoon at the range,  and ask if anyone else has had a problem with the "hinge"pin.

The pin that the HAJO adjustable sight pivots on for elevation changes,  moved out about 1/4" on the right side.  The pin end shows that it was dimpled with a punch originally for retention.  Finger pressure pushes it back in "temporarily"

The question is:  the left side pin end is "oversized" and it didn't move.  Are there two pins one on the right and one on the left;  or is the pin broken and that allowed the right end to start to fall out.  :-\   The latter makes more sense,  but I don't want to take it apart before I know what I'm up against.

Match tomorrow at 0900.:(   A little JBWeld might be a temp fix for the match.  It's still ON at 25 yards.

Edited to add info:  The pin is broken,  and I'm the first case of this happening.    Oh well.  Lead, follow or get out of the way.:( ;D

CZ Custom/Stuart is sending me a new pin at no charge.  As always,  they are standing behind their products.  The pistol (&sight) has over 10K rds on it,  and I really like this sight.  In the meantime,  I hope the quick-set epoxy holds that loose pin in temporarily.  ;D

I love JBWeld!  Good luck in the match.  Don't even think about that sight.  It will be fine.  Today.

I personally only know one peraon using this but he has no more than 1500 to 2000 rounds through. I have 'read' on forums that adjustable sight  give up anywhere after about 5k rounds. I am not sure.
My TS has 2500 rounds through it. So far so good.
As Joe L said, forget it even happened. For tomorrow..

Instead of JBWeld,  I decided on some 5-minute epoxy.---bad call.  The pin popped it loose, but didn't fall out.  I just kept pushing it back in.
I put "JB-WELD" on it for tomorrows USPSA Match---If I get through that, the pin should arrive before another match.

The sight was shooting to point of aim on the rifle course today---scored second on that course against other pistols and a number of rifles.   ;D
Shooting is good!

Exactly why I use fixed sights. Things always seem to break at the most inopportune times. :)

There's some truth in that,  but I also have a .22 target pistol I bought in the 1970s with an adjustable sight that's is still perfect and has been shot a bazillion times. It also shoots to exactly POA.--no Kentucky windage allowances are needed.
This is a fairly 'new' CZ rear sight with a 'little ' growing pains,  but it is perfect for my use in Production class USPSA.  A PIN failure on a seldom moved sight hinge isn't something one would expect to have fail.

I have the AccuShadow with the HAJO sight. I haven't touched anything with the sights and have shot about 800rds with it just the way it came out of the box. It's dead accurate and hasn't 'moved' around on me at all.

Hajo Sight Broken Hinge Pin
« Reply #7 on: January 30, 2014, 08:53:10 PM »
K-Dog: Mine has maybe 10X that rd count.

I got the pin "today" due to the postal service losing it in Mesa AZ. for 6 days. ::)

If any one is going to replace the HAJO hinge pin,  don't forget there's the smallest ball bearing and spring on the planet earth that rides on that pin.  These provide the "Click" and hold the sight adjustment in position.  The springs in the sear are "HUGE" compared this little spring. ;D  This had to be pushed in (used a 1/16th" drill rod) while inserting the hinge pin.

After a little impolite language, I got it all back together and it's working fine.

P.S.  The pin size is the same diameter as a 5/64th  or #47 drill rod and less than 3/4" long..  These could be used in a pinch with careful retention punches.

I have the HAJO tactical sight I added to my SP01 shadow Jan or so. Mine just started walking out the right side tonight at the range, I'd put the round count at about 2-3k on this gun. Didn't occur to me that the pin might be broken, thanks 1SOW. Will ping CZC on this.

The part that initially caused my rear sight problem,  was the adjustment screw.  When it breaks,  the sight  will flip back and forth which can break the hinge pin.  There are two very small springs resting under the adj. sight.  When the sight flips, it tosses those into space.  ;)
JMO:  Don't arbitrarily run that adj. screw all the way to the limits of travel.   Just adjust it for POI.   YMMV
The current version of the adjustment screw has been made stronger. Mine was about a year ago.
That broken pin can be a little booger to remove. :P

HAJO Sight adjustment
« Reply #10 on: January 26, 2015, 11:15:58 PM »
I consistently shoot high with my Accu Shadow, which I got in July, 2014 and has about 3K rounds through it. An instructor at the SIG Academy shot my pistol and said the sight elevation is off. He also consistently shot it 2-3 inches high and a little left when zeroing it at 15 yards. I worked with another instructor today with even more experience and he came to the same conclusion. We couldn't for the life of us figure out how to adjust the 'click' wheel on the top of the HAJO rear sight, however. What tool/procedure does one use, and once that's figured out, in which direction do I turn the 'click' adjustment to correct shooting high? Seems like it should be simple, but it wasn't obvious how to engage the adjustment device...
Thanks in advance!

I don't have a gun with a HAJO sight, but I do have 5-6 pistols with the Bomar/LPA-style adjustable rear sight like the one on my CZ SP-01 Shadow Custom Target.  Over the years and many thousand rounds I've only broken one rear sight.  The elevation screw sheared in two and broke off mid-stage at a match.  After taking it apart I noticed that the set screw that snugs the rear sight body to the frame was loose and that resulted in a slight amount of play in the dovetail.  I suspect that extra amount of play is what caused the evation screw over time to break.

So now I check my sights periodically for any play and use blue lock-tite on the set screw.  I'm curious if the HAJOs have a set screw and if they get loose that is what causes some of the HAJOs to break.

Viking,  I can't remember the size off-hand,  but it was a mm taller than the one the matches with the Competition rear sight.  The HAJO sight combination is listed on the CZC site under parts, sights, HAJO etc.

I just had my HAJO break for the second time. Both times were the adjustment screw.
