75 B now or wait for the SP-01?
« on: February 02, 2014, 06:05:37 AM »
I am anxious to get my first CZ.  I can get a 75B Black now or wait for a SP-01 based on incoming stock.  Talk me into waiting. I know some will say get both but planning on my 2nd CZ to be a compact version for carry after I get a full size.

Here in SoCal, CZ's are hard to come by (especially the SP-01's, they are rarer than hen's teeth, and any shop that sells them has a waiting list).

I got on the website of one of the few local places that can even get CZ's, and registered to receive an email notification the next time they got any CZ75BD's in. A year went by and I kinda forgot about it. Then one day, I got the email......saw it an hour and a half after it hit my inbox. Jumped online, punched in my CC numbers, and reserved one. Or so I thought. The next morning, I get a phone call. Turns out they oversold, and the guy who reserved one just in front of me got the last one. That was 2 months ago now. My point is, if you find a CZ that you think you may want in the future, buy it now.

I would get the bird in the hand that is better than the 2 in the bush. Get the 75b, and then consider getting a Canik C-100 for carry. The price of the C-100 is very affordable, and I assume they are still readily available. The C-100 is lightweight due to the alloy frame. See the CZ Clone Club Sub Forum for more information on the C-100. Good luck in your decision.

If you want the SP-01 that has a rail, checkering on the front and back of the grips, and a beaver tail for more money then get it.
If you want a CZ now and want to save money, I'd go for the 75B and purchase the rubber grips.
You can't go wrong either way, it is how much you want it.

Cnj1, I have a couple of BDs in stock if still looking.

There should be guns coming soon, now that SHOT is over.

Hi Stuart. Thanks for looking out for me. Yours are probably the 49 state SKU, I assume? Either way, I did find one (a CA model w/10 round mags) today at a small shop about 40 miles away from me, so I bought it. Thank you anyway!

Personally I think the 75 (or 75B, 85, etc..) is more versatile than the SP-01. If you only have one CZ pistol that would be the one. Some are a bit heavier, some are a bit smaller but this one can do it all.
Current CZ list:
SP-01 Shadow
Kadet Kit
CZ75B-SA w/ .40 TS Upper
CZ75B w/ 9MMSA Upper

What will this pistol be used for primarily?  If you're buying a carry gun,  is this gun for the range or competition?
That might make a difference in the opinions given.   Both are great pistols, but there are some differences that might sway the recommendations.

Not going to be a carry gun.  Will use as a range, home defense, and IDPA gun.

The added forward weight and balance of the SPO1  generally allows faster follow-on shots.   The upswept beavertail also gives a slightly higher grip.  The upswept beavertail is also available on a Stainless 75B.  The SPO1 also comes with the 18/19 rd mags.

ALL are individual  Shooters preferences.

JMO: I shot a 75B for years.  My son has an SPO1 Shadow that I've shot quite a bit.  I bought a 75 Custom Shadow Black.  All shoot well for your intended uses, but the 75 Shadow Custom has the best of both the others for comp..  O0;D

I just bought one last week online and brought in through FFL SSE w/ hi-cap permit into Kalifornia. Got one with 18 rnd mags. Had the option to swap mags out to 10 rnd or have the 18 round mags blocked to 10 rnds. Went with the 18 rnd and blocked to 10 rnd so I can convert when I escape (move) out of Kali.

If you even think you might compete with it, hold out for the SP-01.   It's magwell is beveled for better reloads.   A basic 75B doesn't have that.   I have a CZ85. I like it's trigger was well as my son's SP-01 Shadow.   I still have an SP-01 Shadow on order.   The CZ85 was a good start, but I want it to be my good back up gun.

The CZ "Guru" on Brian Enos said once he'd rather have a basic  SP-01 than a 75 Shadow.
Don't mistake my high post count for knowledge or wisdom.   I just like hearing myself type.
