TA90
« on: February 24, 2014, 04:24:02 PM »
Ok, im not up on my TA90s. :o
So some questions.

Local gun shop has silver crome type finish TA90 with the dog leg
slide release (?)
Slide mounted safety.
It also has wood grips, smooth
and adjustable rear sight.
Magazine is blue.

The gun shows NO wear. My bet would be straight out of someones
sock drawer.
Close to unfired, maybe a box or less.
No import marks.

I did some brousing on the internet, I can
not find one of these with an adjustable rear
sight. (is this a factory option?)

Gunshop wants 450.00 which is high.
Not sure if he will come down any.
So is this way to high or just a bit too much?

PS, what happened to my post count? lol

Hello and Welcome to the Forum!

On this TA90, the factory finish is matte Industrial Hard Chrome. Anything else is aftermarket.
The adjustable Rear Sight is aftermarket and was never a factory option.
Grips may be from Tanfoglio or an Aftermarket Source.  Standard grips were a hard rubber.

Definitely overpriced!  I would not pay more than $400 for a good Series 88 TA90 and even then, $350 would be more understandable.
If you pass on this, take a good look at the Canik 55 and SAR series Pistols as well as the Armscore/RIA MAP1 series.
Note, if this is a Pre-Series 88 TA90, don't waste your $$ !  Metal in the Pre-Series 88's is a bit soft.

My Series 88 TA90's, full size and compact.

Next dumb question

How do you tell the difference between a pre 88 and a series 88?

Series 88 were made in 1988 and after. There should be a date code just above the trigger on the right side on the gun looking down 2 letters in a box.

With a AU date code your gun would have been made after 1988 and is probly a trasitional model. I have a an AU TZ75. But yes show us some pics.

I see you use Photobucket. Go to your library, see the 4 boxs below the picture you want to post, notice the last one is "IMG", click on that box and it will turn blue. With your curser on the blue box, right click and chose copy from the pop up window.
Then you can go to the forum and while you are doing your post, right click in your reply and click paste. A bunch of computer code will appear in your post. But when you click preview below the lower right of the reply box your picture will show in your post.

Tried to post your pic for you, but the IMG code does not appear in your library, which is a "must have" for photobucket posting.

However, I did get a good look at the prospective TA90, and it IS a Series 88 TA90.  The Rear Sight is not original, but we knew that was the case.
My original assessment of it's market value stands.  It's a bit dearly priced, and you can buy a new Canik or SAR for less.
A NEW ArmscoreRIA/Tanfoglio MAP1 retails for the price he is asking for a used Tanfoglio.

Walk away if he won't deal.
