Just Another STINGRAY C
« on: March 03, 2014, 10:50:27 PM »
I have started another project this will be my EDC.

It has only been a week but loving it so far.
I have added a 13lb. main spring, grips4u.net grips, and stainless grip screws.
It is not going to be all show no go, but I am waiting for Schmeky to get his Canik sears in.
This one will get the full CGW hammer kit, springs, pins, and 85C trigger.

So here is the Start.

Very very Nice!  8) Congratulations!  :)

I would carry it, the way it is, but it will be interesting to see how your project turns out.

I like the grips on your pistol.  I was thinking of replacing mine with factory CZ rubber grips.

Please let us know how the CGW spring kit works out for you.  Do you have a trigger pull scale to measure the before and after results of the trigger pull?  My biggest fear would be of course reliable primer ignition.

Also, per CGW's site, they say that their punch is needed for the hammer pins.  I wonder why?  Are the pins pressed in?  I had never had a problem getting out my hammer pins on my CZ-75B guns.

You said you put in a 13 pound mainspring.  Is it a hammer mainspring or a recoil mainspring?  If it's a 13 pound mainspring where did you get it from?  I might be interested in ordering one.

Thanks, Paul

Thx for the compliments
Paul,  I have the hammer spring.
I also have the CZ rubber grips and they work real nice.

No I do not have a trigger scale but I have been thinking of getting one just to seebefore and after comparisons.

If you wind up needing the punch I have one of Schmeckys.
I have not done a full disassembly of the sear cage as I am waiting for Schmecky to get the sears in.

one thing that is a must change for me is the HAMMER!
Has any one else got a case of Hammerbite from theirs?
At first I thought it was a burr on the beavertail then I looked while it was cocked, no it bites me..
I compared the Canik Hammer to a CZ compact at a friends house yesterday and the Canik/Tristar hammer ring is both lower
and has an angle that is more straight back than the upward sweep of the CZ ring hammer.
As a side note the firing pin is slightly lower in the slid with the Canik as well.
When compared side by side cocked, it is really evident how much further the Canik hammer drops toward the hand,
the Canik would almost touch the hand in a static position, and the CZ cleared easily not even close!

I don't see how one of these can bite you unless your hand is coming up past the beavertail. My hands are big but fairly narrow, and I don't even come close to having any exposed hand for the hammer to smack. I suspect you must use a much different grip angle than me...perhaps forced by wide grips (the stock plastics)?

I just know steel CZ's ride pretty high in my hand compared to a lot of other guns.

Also, I like the grips in the OP a lot. I normally don't like checkered wood too much, but those are very nicely done. The screws are a nice touch.

If you look closely at the grip in the picture you can see the little CZ logo. The CZ Compact grips fit with many times just needing a slight enlargement of the screw holes. The CZ Compact rubber grips will also fit. Here is the link to the walnut grips. I agree; they are nice looking quality grips.

Welcome BobMare, Bob928 is correct they are the cz75 compact grips, be sure you order the Compact and not the PO1 grips they are similar but the PO1 has a decocker so the back of the grip is cut away at the top to clear it.

I don't see how one of these can bite you unless your hand is coming up past the beavertail.
Yes the web of my hand does get above the beavertail.

You can see that in this shot. ALSO keep in mind the hammer drops another 1/8" during cycling of the slide.

Here is my RAMI for comparison notice the hammer angle compared to the Stingray. The pivot for the hammer looks to be the same position on the frame but the ring on the CZ is much higher.

Here you can see it is barely any bite, but just enough to get annoying after 150 rnds. See the dark spot that is where it has healed up.

A lot of it is just I have very large hands (even with the extended beavertail my SA has the beavertail sitting flush with top of my hand and my pinky hanging on the extended mag), the other part is I like the gun low in my hand.

Different subject, sort off. Keep in mind these grips are wider than the stock grips They measure 1.48" at the widest point, and at the thumb/ trigger finger they measure 1.33" giving them a palm swell of .15 inches.
This is something that I like in a grip, I am not a flat grip profile type of person.
Also of note is that they are what is considered a full body grip meaning they cover the frame all the way up past the magazine release.
The stock CZ rubber grips do not extend that far froward. They also contour perfectly at the back of the frame so that the grip and frame form one continuous curve when viewed from the bottom.

I forgot how short the RAMI actually is. Got to love only holding on with two fingers... if you have the mag in... I still want another one though

Those new grips are great looking by the way! wood grips sure do bring out the best in a gun.

Visited the range again today.
We Took my wife's CZ75B SS, the RAMI, and Sting (sorry the geek in me could not resist).
We both found  the Stingray a joy to shoot.
All were fun, but the Canik, shot with the other 2 for less than half the stock price.
The RAMI has major trigger work.
The 75 SS has barrel length and competition sites.
This Canik is going to be killer with CGW internals and CZC tritium sites.
After the shoot a couple of range workers were not only impressed with the RAMI trigger but were amazed by the quality vs. Price point of the STINGRAY.

I am very happy with this purchase!!
