Safety Flip?
« on: March 19, 2014, 10:33:24 PM »
Since I sent my SP-01 immediately to get cerakoted when I bought it, I dont know the answer to this for sure. My safety will ONLY engage when the hammer is back in SA mode. DA or half cocked, safety wont flip up.... On my Compact L it flips up anytime.... did the painter screw up my safety putting it back together?

Safety is not supposed to engage if hammer is down, only when cocked. That's normal.
I have no knowledge or experience with Compact L thou, did it get some massaging? Custom parts?

Check your manual.  If it's like the full size 75s, the manual will say "the hammer has to be fully cocked before the safety can be engaged.

Safety usually engages with hammer down when custom competition hammer is installed because of  the way it's cut if I remember correctly.

The safety lever will move on a custom gun but is the safety actually engaged?

No you can pull the trigger hard enough to fire, but it will/may bend some parts.

Safety should not be engaged with hammer down or in half cocked,  just because it can does not mean it is good for your CZ.

The safety prevents the the sear from clearing the full cock notch. In DA the hammer is still free to be pushed back by the trigger and then drop as the trigger bar disengages the disconnector. Whether the half cock notch will stop the hammer or not isn't guaranteed and will be a matter of how the tolerances stack up in your gun. Even if it does stop the falling hammer, you can still break something because the sear will be barely catching.

Ok so if im reading these posts correctly, on my factory sp-01 the safety will not move up unless fully cocked and thats normal. On my CZC custom compact, because of the race trigger and maybe sear, the safety will move up anytime, but it only works when its fully cocked back. Is this corrrect?

AND I would avoid using the safety in DA mode to avoid premature wear/damage to the sear and/or hooks.

sounds correct to me if the parts are factory.   the adjustable sear from CGW operates slightly differently i believe.
