And she still gets re-elected
« on: March 23, 2014, 02:16:36 PM »
http://www.nraila.org/legislation/federal-legislation/2014/3/feinstein-wants-obama-to-pull-a-clinton-on-firearm-importation.aspx

Ms Fienstien, the author of the famous quote, "Mr and Mrs America, turn 'em all in!" is trying to pressure President Obama to stop importation of various rifles, parts and pistols the same as Bill Clinton and G.H. Bush did, by executive order.

She is deliberately clueless and yet so transparent...why do they keep electing her? What sweetheart deals has she brought her constituents over the years for this blind loyalty?

Take your pick 1SOW! Close enough for hand grenades.

Lemmings will follow each other off a cliff. Sheep just stand around waiting to be taken off to market and slaughtered. Waiting for a guy with Velcro gloves is also a possibility.

Personally, I prefer the sheep/slaughter analogy.

Blame the big government-academia complex that Eisenhower warned about in his farewell address.  Greg Gutfeld provides some insight:

Eisenhower never warned about a "big government-academia complex" in his farewell address.

He did warn about "the domination of the nation's scholars by federal employment and project allocations, and the power of money", and he still supported the "traditional free university as historically the fountainhead of new ideas and scientific discovery".
As a counterpoint, he also warned of the possibility "public policy could become captive of a scientific-technological elite", and that it was the "task of statesmen to mold, balance, and to integrate these and other forces, new and old, within the principles of our democratic system -- ever aiming toward the supreme goals of our free society".

His truly emphatic warning (several paragraphs, about a third of the speech) was regarding the military-industrial complex.

Returning to the topic of the original post;
Senator Feinstein is just one of many on a long list of our elected officials I'd like to see replaced, but I'm not from California and my vote doesn't count there.

Eisenhower never warned about a "big government-academia complex" in his farewell address.

From Eisenhower's farewell address:

Quote
Akin to, and largely responsible for the sweeping changes in our industrial-military posture, has been the technological revolution during recent decades.

In this revolution, research has become central; it also becomes more formalized, complex, and costly. A steadily increasing share is conducted for, by, or at the direction of, the Federal government.

Today, the solitary inventor, tinkering in his shop, has been over shadowed by task forces of scientists in laboratories and testing fields. In the same fashion, the free university, historically the fountainhead of free ideas and scientific discovery, has experienced a revolution in the conduct of research. Partly because of the huge costs involved, a government contract becomes virtually a substitute for intellectual curiosity. For every old blackboard there are now hundreds of new electronic computers.

The prospect of domination of the nation's scholars by Federal employment, project allocations, and the power of money is ever present and is gravely to be regarded.

Yet, in holding scientific research and discovery in respect, as we should, we must also be alert to the equal and opposite danger that public policy could itself become the captive of a scientific-technological elite.

It is the task of statesmanship to mold, to balance, and to integrate these and other forces, new and old, within the principles of our democratic system-ever aiming toward the supreme goals of our free society.

I submit that the big government-academia (Gutfeld's academia-media-government) complex Ike warned about is stronger and far more corrupt and out of control than today than the current military-industrial complex.  Our defense expenditures as a percentage of the GDP is a sliver of what it was in 1961, while spending in A-M-G social programs (many of which are ineffective) has skyrocketed.  That the A-M-G complex has kept the focus of Ike's speech on the M-I complex, leaving the uninformed to believe he never warned against the federal-academic complex growing out of control.

I did post the link to the speech in its entirety so that people can follow it, read it themselves and make up their own minds.

If you want to repeat Mr Gutfeld, a talking head who makes unsupported blanket assertions while plugging his book on the network that employs him, nothing's stopping you.  I just love it when a guy who used to work for Maxim, Stuff and Men's Health before becoming a professional talker and blogger decides he's going decides to suddenly take the high road regarding a porn star.  (I'm sure he never pandered to the lowest common denominator during his tenure at those magazines.)  Then again, he should be an expert on manipulating opinions, at least those which are susceptible to target marketing and easy manipulation...  That's credibility of a sort.

However, putting words in Eisenhower's mouth he did not speak is misinforming people.

I posted the relevant portion of Ike's speech as you seemed not to be able to find it.

Interesting ? pure argumentum ad hominem.  Try again if you can scrape together an argument with an iota of substance.

I provided Ike's exact words from the relevant portion of his speech.  Read it and weep.

You just reposted what I posted days ago.

If we want to have a contest as to whose cut and pastes are bigger, I think I'll spare everyone and stick to posting links.  A simple quote when necessary with an accompanying link or reference citing the source is sufficient to share for intelligent discussion.  I prefer to give the good people here credit for that.  Nor do I wish to derail armoredman's thread any further than necessary to straighten out the facts.

Seeing as how I did bother to do my homework, retrieved the speech, posted the link to it, quoted the pertinent excerpts from it (which came from the very paragraph I supposedly was "not able to find", yet quoted from directly) to back up my statement with Ike's own words, I think anyone following these posts will see who checks their facts before posting and who does so after it's too late.

The only weeping I'm doing is with satisfied laughter...

Considering who her constituents are, why are you surprised?
Life isn't fair, stop expecting it to be.
