Fiber optic front sights for Sar K2 / B6/ B6 compact by EFR
« on: April 03, 2014, 03:31:13 PM »
One of my customers challenged me yesterday to come up with a fiber optic front sight for his K2 45 ACP. I accepted and one day later I had my K2 done as well. Since I carry the B6 poly compact every day and hate those sights as well I will convert that one as well. but I will also replace the rear sight as well. I will conduct my test firing on the 2 k2 pistols over the weekend and make sure point of aim and impact are correct. I need some more sights to complete the B6 poly.  The front sights required about a half hour to modify and fit to the front of the K2 45 ACP pistol. I will have pictures by Monday as well. Is there any possibility of you doing a FO front sight for a K2P? I'd buy one if it was available.

I don't currently have the K2P 9mm in stock so I don't have the pistol to look at, but I believe it uses the same front sight that the others have. I will have to take my K2 45acp full size to the next level and swap out the rear adjustable sight for a fixed tactical rear. That my require me to play with front sight heights to get the correct combination for point of aim and impact. I had already blacked out my rear adjustable rear sight because I hate 3 dot white sight setups. Tomorrow morning I will be testing the 2 K2 45's that i setup with fiber optics today. then we will take some pictures.

Are you selling the ones for the K2 45?   Please, Please, Please.   I lost my stock sight when I was trying to figure out how to put an FO sight in it and it's been a safe queen ever since.

I will be selling this sight as a service at my shop. Their are no sights currently available for these pistols. I found a sight out of my rather large front sight stock selection that I could modify and then final fit by hand to securely lock into the Sar front dovetail in the slide, In the process of finding one that I thought would work I ruined two front sites . So my R&D on the Sar K2 cost me $80,00 in parts and about $60.00 in labor. R&D won't be done till I fire the 2 Sar K2's and unfortunately today it is now raining good here. Tomorrow is supposed to be clear so I will get the shooting done to ensure that I have used the correct front sight height. I will be able to offer this service for about $79.00 which will include the cost of the front site. I have already ordered a tactical rear and front site that I will be using to upgrade my B6 poly compact[my carry gun] with. If that goes as planned then we will upgrade our B6 fullsize that we shoot in IDPA.
My goal for the customer was to have a sight that looked like it was factory installed. This type of work takes time and careful hand fitting when working with parts that were not designed for this gun. It is possible that down the road I could find a manufacturer to make the sights to my specs but that would require a serious bulk purchase. For now I will only be able to offer this service in house and each pistol will be personally done by me and test fired by me to ensure proper performance in the field. it would also require shipping your complete pistol with one mag for test firing. We will take the photos tomorrow and complete the test firing and go from there . My compact should be ready in another week. Brian/ EFR

The K2P is not dovetailed. It seems to be attached with a vertical roll pin.

Yes it is attached by a roll pin ,but it sits in a dove tail slanted slot , the replacement is fitted to lock tightly in that slot and held in place with an allen set screw.

Please let us know when you are ready to have us send you our SAR K2 45's.    As I said, mine's a sightless safe queen and I really want to shoot this gun.

Well we got a break in the rain  this afternoon so there was only one thing to do run to the range and shoot the 2 K2's . I used a .140 height on one pistol and a .150 on the second , a minor amount of dial in was needed on both . Either front could be used with the adjustable sight on the rear and will work effectively . Devon shot both and said that he would prefer to shoot my Sar K2 for IDPA this year instead of the two 9 mm's that he used last year. It was a good shooting session sights worked out very nice an improved our groupings. Now we did black out the white dots on both of the rear adjustable sights so that your focus was on the green fiber optic front. a i need to do now is get more front sights and start modifying them -we are good to . we will take some photos tomorrow.

My B6P compact just got to my FFL and I'll be picking it up tomorrow. If it goes well with yours I'll be sending mine to you as soon as you're ready... The lack of an available FO sight was the only reservation I had about buying this gun. Please keep us posted.

I am going to take my B6P compact a little further than just sights. The Sar lineup in general has a decent single action pull with the double action being pretty stiff. Its time that someone did some trigger work as well. . The K2 45 acp and the K2P 9mm 's have better triggers that the B6 poly guns so for now i will restrict my work to the poly series and then down the road apply it to the K series pistols as well. So while we are baking guns toady I will take my poly out of my daily carry and start the work. I will just have to carry my custom shark compact for a week or two.

Today when I got back from picking my youngest up after a 15 mile back pack trip on the AP trail with his scout patrol i decide to get some color on my now modified BP6 compact. We did take some before pics of the slide and stripped frame. I am coating the slide, mag bases and frame in Cobalt and the controls in stainless cerakote. It was mocked up with a rear night sightand a fiber optic front but I will add the  tactical rear to it when it arrives later this week.. i modified the hammer to a split style to lighten up the mass. I will be replacing the firing pin spring, the hammer spring and firing pin block spring. I will also have to modify the tension on the bottom of the trigger bar. I will try to get the pictures of the two K2's and the BP6 compact up tomorrow.
