cz 527 Bolt closing problems
« on: April 03, 2014, 04:26:43 PM »
Had my 527 out shooting today for sighting in the scope. Got it done, but had problems a few times closing the bolt. Some times it stuck and would not close. There seems to be a spot just where the bolt handle goes down where it is wearing. Just wondering if this is common. It seems like it might be better just to work the action. But this really was hard to close a few times. Hmm, push forward while closing? Strange.

is the gun new, does  the problem remain with the chamber empty, what calibre & type (factory-reloads) of ammo were you using. try using a quality round .

The gun is new, this was the second time at the range. I was using Red Army Ammo, Romanian manufacture, 7.62 x 39.

I know a lot of guys use the cheap steel cased ammo without problems, personally i dont for the reasons you described, some of the ammo comes heavily laquered and can leave it a tight fit, with a tight bolt lift also, known  poor oal consistancy aswell, as i mentioned try some quality ammo, ibet you problem dissapeares, there was talk on this side of the pond e/u that red army was corrosive and had a rep for poor accuracy.

I saw that the 7.62x54 ammo was corrosive, but the newer Red Army was not. I also have some Russian Bear ammo that I have not tried yet. Maybe the lacquered ammo was the cause.

I was out shooting my 527 today with Brown Bear ammo. No problems, so I think it was the lacquer on the Red Army Ammo. That will be SKS only! I need to buy a few more cases of Russian ammo.

Something else that can cause a "heavy" bolt is a magazine sitting too high in the action.

I have a 527 Carbine in 7.62 X 39 and purchased two additional CZ factory 5-round magazines. One of these two mags interferes w/ the bolt. I measured the louvre'd stops relative to the feed lips and that one was beyond spec compared to the two mags that work properly. I have yet to send it to CZ U.S.A. for a replacement. I'm just not using that one.

Cheers!
