P07 Duty with CGW hammer. Impressions
« on: April 10, 2014, 10:28:50 AM »
I finished my install of the CGW hammer kit only and although there are reviews of this kit already I noticed that they are in conjunction with the Double action reduction kit.

First off thanks to Joe L for making great instructional video that covers in every detail certain tips and tricks to avoid frustration during the disassembly and installation which was invaluable.
Thanks to CGW for making a product so perfect that he should be the chief engineer at Uhersky Brod.
I called CGWs before purchasing and let them know I was only interested in single action only and if I need the spring kit, the polite man on the phone let me know that the hammer kit was all that I needed. After receiving the parts I was impressed with the quality as well as how fast I received them.

 Here are my impressions:

My DA pull was a bit stagey before the change but not something that really bothered me and now that feeling is gone and I have a smooth heavy pull which is exactly what I wanted to make my gun safe in the decocked position.

Single action is nothing short of amazing. All of my guns have trigger work or high end drop in triggers but nothing like this kit.  It's not the most crisp or lightest I have felt but it feels right. What I mean is that it's not dramatic or edgy and feels like factory work as if UB decided to make a better gun. The creep in SA is gone and the reset is much better then before. I have no doubt that with these parts CZ could have sold this gun as is and not worry about any safety concerns with new shooters, and at the same time would have the best factory trigger on the market.
My Duty is perfect for 3 gun now.

Thank you.  I thought I was the only one strange enough to use a P-07 in 3 Gun..

Most welcome. In my opinion I think the P07 would probably be one of the better options for three gun because it handles extremely well in the hand especially for moving it quick between targets. In my opinion again I would think a full size CZ especially one that is heavy would just get in the way. A P07 with the Black Hawk Serpa holster is ideal for competition.

I did not buy the P07 because It was a compact that was  secondary. The P07 is every bit as accurate if not more then a full size.

Dev, I'm glad you made good use of the video and, even more importantly, are making good use of your CGW parts.  I really think the CZ P series guns are hard to beat.

I'm shooting my P-09 in bullseye matches because I don't think it is a handicap at all.  That, and not many people have even considered shooting a plastic gun in bullseye.  I reserve the right to change my mind as I gain more experience, and catch up to the gun, LOL.

I think shooting a polymer gun for your bullseye matches is a real testament to your skill as well as not being the guns drawback. I think your shooting is some of the best I have seen on the YouTubes.

I finally had a chance to shoot my gun today after the change it's even more of night and day difference then just dry firing the thing. My accuracy has gone up significantly to the point that it is actually better then my full size Pre-B 85 that has a great trigger. Every single stage shot felt like a solid thud with no perceivable mussel flip. I love this gun.

Good to know that the CGW hammer refines the trigger pull. I figured I'd drop the bread on the parts anyone when I order the P07 but now I am absolutely going to buy some spring kits and the hammer from CGW.

Dev, thanks for the compliment, but it is easier to develop good skills with good hardware, that I'm sure of.  I look forward to every round I get to fire with the P-09.  And the Kadet.

I shot my first 3 man three gun with the P07 in York PA a few hours ago and it was a wonderful experience. There was one stage that had an walk through ally with friendlies and hostiles at close range on either side and although I'm not a great shooter, transitioning this light weight gun quickly was pure joy especially when you have to double tap each target.

I think a good start is just the hammer kit then you can add the other parts like springs and such later if you feel the need to. What I have learned about triggers in general is that it's personal preference especially when it comes to reduction of pull weight. The most expensive trigger is not the best for everyone. I can say without a doubt that the hammer kit alone is simply outstanding for double taps and I also felt there was no compromise or weirdness with the improvement.

I appreciate the input but I've done a year in an accredited gunsmithing program (I love guns but I realized that mostly swapping parts and fixing people's screw ups was not something for a man of my temperment...you have to be mechanically inclined AND patient and I'm only mechanically inclined) and I've been around enough to know what I do and do not like in my triggers. I'll naturally test the DA/SA trigger first but if it's much like my friend's P01 or my old 88 series I will most likely take the plunge and swap this and that out to my liking. Sort of like with a striker fired gun. A stock disconnector I don't mind but I surely do notice the difference between a rougher stock trigger pull and a more refined pull after a good polishing and maybe a change in trigger springs. I buy a striker fired auto and that little S.O.B. is having its guts ripped out and polished faster than you can blink.
