Making .22 Ammo
« on: May 24, 2014, 05:32:34 PM »
This has been around once before--I think,  but it makes even more baffling why we can't find .22LR ammo.

Gougers are still getting a premium for powder and .22 and a few other things, and of course end-users are buying it all up as fast as they can.  For the record, I have no problem getting .22 right now.  The two LGS's I use both have a variety in stock all the time.  It's over-priced, but it's available.

Cheap .22 is a thing of the past.  Even if supply would return to normal, we will never see sub-$20 bulk packs again.  (It wasn't that long ago we had $10 bulk packs!)  Retailers now know just how much people are willing to spend.

I just wish someone like Henry would make a small frame rifle in a small cartridge like .32 S&W Long.  Cheap to shoot, low recoil, and reloadable.  At 2 grains of Bullseye per round, it's about as cheap as you can sneak by powder wise.  With home-cast bullets, I can shoot these for about 4.5 cents a round.

Local .22 steel shooters are still lining up outside Academy before opening to get their ,22 ammo.

I'd sure like to see the CCI "Mini-Mag" and "Target" in the plastic boxes of 100 reappear locally ::)

Even with a Volquartsen firing pin, my 22/45 doesn't like Aquila.   About one fail to fire per magazine.
Don't mistake my high post count for knowledge or wisdom.   I just like hearing myself type.

Another point worth noting with the 4 million/day mentioned for that CCI plant -- it says 4 million rimfire, not 4 million .22LR.  They're not producing 4 million .22LR per day.  ;)

Very few other rfmade,.17 25wmf now that is expensive, your fooish to pay high prices for 22 lr ,bricks, value packs are cheaper than what some are paying for a box of 50.While the local walmart has a limit  of 2 boxes per they have wife and kids each get 2,and often are wal mart enployees, thus know when they go on shelf.I buy volume packs cci blazer while it will never be accused of being a hot round it functions fine in a revolver and my mossberg m15,still have about 1400 rds left gave 20 bucks + tax for it several months ago-just a low powered lead head-there is no shortage of 22 other than what are man made after the mfg.Bought 2 100 rders winchester and remington 5 for one 6 for the other both hp.Supply and demand, demand is havy due to panic buyers-I buy at local gunshops and specials only when they buy in bulk, other wise something I dont need and can gather dust on some scalpers shelf.40-50 a box those that buy have more money than sense.

Well worth watching.

4,000,000 cartridges a day from one plant ?!?!  Someone/something has to be interfering with distribution or there is hoarding on an unprecedented scale (or both).

But that is only enough to send 2 bricks to each US WalMart Supercenter per day.

But, shipments once a week, should be 14 bricks per week. Definitely not seeing that many around here.

I saw a guy at the Hampton, VA gunshow this weekend trying to sell his .22 ammo for $65 to $75 per brick.  I just chuckled, pointed to it so my son/nephew would look and said, "That's ridiculous" and kept walking.  I don't know/care if he heard me.
I just keep wasting time and money on other brands trying to find/make one shoot like my P07 and P09.  What is wrong with me?

That is only enough production to send 2 bricks per day per US WalMart SuperCenter per day. (about 3300 US locations are SuperCenters)

That doesn't include any for non-SuperCenter WalMarts in the US, Cabela's, Bass Pro, Gander and every other gun/outdoor store in the US and CCI customers in the rest of the world.

You are very right, I didn't think of that. Completely spaced it
