Hearing Protection

I've been using the Howard Leight Impact Pro muffs. They've gone up quite a bit in price lately, but are excellent. However, I still double up by wearing ear inserts under the muffs. Here is the link for the HLs:

That's what I use, but without any inserts or plugs.  I had their less expensive, coventional Leightning model for many years before as well, and I kept them around for friends and relatives.  Never felt the need for plugs with that model, either.

I have had really good results with the Howard Leight products, except that I don't like them with long guns.  Several of the Leight products advertise that they are suitable for long guns, but I don't see it.  You cannot practice jump-shooting properly, for example.  I use the cheap, conventional Tasco Pionear model for long guns, because the earpieces rotate.  I find it advisable to use foam plugs with this set, for certain!   

The more expensive ear protectors have designs that exert even pressure from bars on both sides of the cups, so they don't rotate.  Some of them are slimmer/shorter profile and don't really require moving them, however.  My father has a Peltor set that is fine with long guns, but I don't know which model he has.  They are not electronic, however.  If someone knows of a set of electronic muffs that work well with shotguns, I would love to know.

Back in the day,  that's exactly what was used in a pinch for .22 pistol Bullseye.    May be why I wear hearing aids.

Heck, that's all the "hearing protection" we used to have on the range firing M14s and M60s. And even those were just a "suggestion".

 Been using Walker Game Ears for 15 years. No problems .
 Bought  for Predator calling, ( listening for howls ) but does a great job at the range also .

When hunting upland game or waterfowl as a kid, even as a young adult, we never bothered with ear protection. Fortunately, I'm not wearing hearing aids now, but I don't take chances anymore. Money spent on a good protective variety of hearing protection is money well spent. Agree with Radom that the HL Impact Pros are not well suited for long guns. Generally, I use inserts for shotgun or rifle use.

Just went to the range and tried out the impact sports. Worked great with foam plugs in under them.

With the silicone pads that can be bought as an accesory, they seal awesome and you can wear them for longer periods without any discomfort.

I have a sibling that works in the R&D n Honeywell, they bought out Sperian, formerly Howard Leight.
They have some nice quality muffs. But the choice protection electronic de/amplification pads are the Howard Leight "Impact sport". I use them and boy oh boy, they are the best.

I just received a pair of Peltor Tactical Sport via Amazon.  They are only a 20 db reduction rating but I use them for rifles because of the slim design.  The larger ear muffs have better noise reduction but no way can I get a decent cheek weld using them.  I would prefer better noise reduction but I augment with foam ear plugs.

I am not sure but I think this model has been discontinued by Peltor.

Maybe a few months.
I'm  looking at trying Brownell's pricey model and getting another of the cheapy Caldwells that do allow a good cheek weld for Rifle-Shotgun.
The Caldwells lasted a year or more,  but shut down during gun fire.
