New cz97b
« on: June 28, 2014, 06:59:21 PM »
Just bought a cz97b off gunbroker, should have in about a week, I plan to use it in uspsa. Will eventually have CGW or CZCustom do their magic on it. Currently shooting a cgw modded cz85 combat in both idpa and uspsa, looking to move up to major in uspsa. Anyone else use one in USPSA?

I have a cz75b at CGW right now for the "full upgrade" plus some cerakoting. it will be my back-up to the 85c.

I'll probably continue to shoot the 85c in idpa and try the cz97 for uspsa, if I like the results enough and stick with uspsa I'll definitely be sending the 97 to CGW.

My 85 c was a great gun, I sent it to CGW for the defensive carry package, it came back even greater,

I received my CGW 97 BDE a few weeks ago and it is by far my most accurate handgun. Now I am  considering having my shadow custom worked on a bit. I hope you enjoy your 97 as much as I do.

I use my 97b for IDPA CDP but it would be perfectly at home in USPSA limited 10. I do all my own work but I have a CZ comp hammer, 85 combat trigger, tactical rear sight, original 85 combat mag release, sp-01 slide release, flat aluminum grips, dawson precision fiber optic front, CGW firing pin, srs, type I disco, trigger spring, floating trigger pin, reduced fpb spring, 8.5 lb hammer spring, steel fp retaining pin, 12 pound recoil spring, and bedair as guide rod.  I've trick it out to make it work for me.  I'm not 100% sure but I think USPSA limited 10 allows for the removal of the firing pin block but that's all I would change if going to USPSA.  Well that and. I plan to make a magwell for my 97b this winter on a mill.  Note I said you can use a 8.5 lb hammer spring but you must use small primer .45 acp brass with federal primers. Federal large pistol primers need a 13 pound hammer spring to be 100%.  Also, my favorite load are SNS Casting 250 grain .452" flat points. They now make this bullet with the JM coating and you have to load it short but it is absolutely the softest shooting .45 load I've tried. It is also extremely accurate and does not slow down the cyclic rate of the gun at all.  Good luck with the gun, you will love it!

Picked it up yesterday and shot it this afternoon, put about 60-70 rounds through it. Very nice, Was shooting low and left, made an adjustment  on the rear sight to shoot more to the right, i can move the rear sight with just finger pressure, I'll have to get it dialed in and the use lock-tite or something to keep it in place.  Sa is about 4.5-5 lbs on my scale. Only thing I did not like was the mag release was a little stiff. Planning on sending it off to CGW for the full treatment down the road, will probably have them put on different sights when I do that. So I was able to push my rear sight off just with finger pressure, its a #6, so after a little more experimenting I may get a higher sight from cz to raise point of impact.  Although I think i'll probably just live with it until I decide on a replacement sight. What are you using on your 97. I was thinking either an lpa adjustable sight or cgw's ez-d sight.  Didn't really shoot for group size, but what I saw made me very happy.

I have an EZ drift from CGW and a tactical cut rear sight from CZ Customs. I had the EZ on my 97B and the tactical on my 75b .40. I swapped the two because I didn't like how the EZ drift fit the 97b and the CZ is slighty taller which raised my POI. I am using the .150" front fiber optic that CGW recommended but I was still hitting low. May go to an even shorter Dawson front sight in the future. The CGW EZ left a much bigger gap between the frame and the bottom of the sight than the CZ Customs tactical sight did. I think CGW designed the EZ drift more so for the 75B which needs the extra clearance due to the rib on the top of the slide.  In my opinion it fits the 75b perfectly but leaves something to be desired on the 97b.  That's just my opinion though.

Jake, CGW makes different EZ-D sights for the 97 than for the 75.

I don't believe you are correct. My shooting buddy had the 97b BE full custom gun and Im pretty sure it has the exact sight with the same gap I referenced. David at CGW sells two different sight sets that state the gun they are for. One for the 75b and one for the 97b. Unless. I am mistaken the difference is the front sight height. Below that on the web page he sells just the rear sight which does not distinguish the gun it is for.

Got the rear sight lock tited in for left to right so its dead on, Elevation is better than i first thought, could have been my error the first time,Next to practice a bit, havent shot 45acp in a while, and then i'll shoot it in a uspsa match.  Once i save up some money off to CGW it goes.
