Canik 55 black finish?

I've heard a few reports of the black finish chipping. The chrome finish of my T-120 has really grown on me more than I thought it would, and I do want to get a Tristar in titanium. I  might also be looking at getting a black one depending on what's available when I get ready to buy again. so let' hear about your black Canik. I want to find out if the problem is wide spread or isolated.

I had to send my black Tristar C-100 to the importer because the finish was chipping off in less than a month.

Wow! That's not aging too gracefully!

Tristar customer service is excellent. They received my pistol on Friday 6/27. A new pistol was shipped out on Monday 6/30. I don't know how you could beat that!

I have a relatively new p120 and I must say the finish is very very impressive!

Time will tell but it's been very nice so far! Good luck with tristar I have never received a call back from them when I call and the greeter that answers the phone answers it "yah" and "hellllo" very unprofessional and dreadful to deal with

Just picked up my new C-100. It looks flawless. I did a thorough cleaning and fluff/buff. I'll get a couple hundred rounds through it and report back.

The factory epoxy coatings (I think that's what they are) seem pretty durable. I suspect that the numerous reports of small chips are not actually due to a lack of durability, but simply factory flaws. Small spots that got an errant bit of machine oil or some other contaminent on them prior to the coating being applied.

Being the only person (that I've seen) to try and strip/polish one of the alloy frames, I can attest...that stuff does NOT like to come off. The yellow underneath is some kind of etching, assumably to make the coating stick.

They use Ceracote to finish their pistols.  The problem with the paint chipping is either improper prep issues like blasting or keeping the part sterile before the paint is applied.  It can also be an improper mix by the factory of the two part paint.  They could also have a shelf life problem with the paint with either part of the two mixes or when the two parts are mixed.  They could have also improperly cured the Cerecote.  They are quit a few variables with the whole painting process.  I've refinished a lot of guns with a similar coating.

My daughter has an older C-100 and it is not cerakoted... not sure what they used before but cerakote is definitely preferable

No, I'm not what you would call a jewelry kind of guy. That was the most obvious place, but it had little chips throughout the magazine well and close to the slide on the frame. There were no marks on the slide at all.

My older C-100 is not cherakote and is much more tuffer than the newer cherakote Tristars. My C-100 is several years old and is my truck gun. My friend bought a T-120 on my suggestion and it has the desert tan cherakote finish. It looked worse than my C-100 after 10 holster draws. My friend was happy with the guns performance and said we didn't care about the finish on it. I was a little disappointed but it's a great shooting gun. I hope Tristar/canik goes back to their original finish.
