Gamo air rifle scope question
« on: July 02, 2014, 10:04:49 PM »
I have a Gamo whisper air rifle which came with a scope. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to mount it so it does not shift under recoil. After 3 shots, the reticule crosshairs are canted to the left despite my attempts to tighten it down sufficiently. Anyone have any ideas?

Widge:
Is the Scope / Tube turning in the Rings or are the Crosshairs rotating within the Scope?
Is the Mount moving (forward / backward) on the Rail ?

I think the crosshairs are moving rather than the scope.

Grandson bought a Gamo with BSA scope some years back.  Could not get the scope to move far enough to the left to hit anywhere near center. Took it off put it on one of my RWS guns and it centered fine.
Although I know BSA scopes are a POS, I think the Gamo scope mount was at fault .

I could get it to zero, but it had to be rotated 10 degrees right to get the crosshairs horizontal and vertical. I cannot find any way to square them up correctly. It's as if the reticule is rotating. I don't want to break out the pipe wrench just yet if anyone has a better way.

Spring guns will destroy a normal scope. Assumably, Gamo is including an airgun specific scope. With the scope adjustment caps at 90 degrees and the top cap pointed straight up, the crosshairs should be level. If they aren't, the scope is bad and must be replaced. There is no other adjustment that will resolve this. The 'cage' the crosshairs are mounted in is moving inside the scope. It can happen with just about any scope but is pretty common in cheap scopes. Call Gamo and see if they will replace it or look around for a good airgun specific scope. If it doesn't say it's ok for spring gun use you'll be wasting your money.

Copy what Guntoter said
When it comes to Springers and their reverse Recoil, even a high-end Scope can get beat-up
If the Crosshairs won't stay squared-up it's a bad Scope
What brand is it Widge ?

Gamo scope and rifle. Bought it through Amazon almost a year ago. It's (scope AND rifle) going back for a refund.

Incidentally, BSA is also owned by Gamo. They bought the name and factory when BSA closed up.

I want it for varmints, so I'm back in the market for a 22 rather than a 177. Any recs welcome though.
