Fixed my CZ 82 FTF and Jam Problem
« on: July 05, 2014, 09:49:32 PM »
Bought a 1990 production in very good condition from AIM a few years back that would only shoot round nose without the jam or feed problems. Put it away until recently when I got serious trying to find the problem. To get straight to the point, I found the bottom lip of the barrel was slightly above the feed ramp. Unloading the pistol I noticed scratch marks on the nose of the bullet after it had been chambered then ejected without firing. Any hollow point would jam and in some cases exhibit bullet setback. This was done at the factory when the barrel was fitted, probably on a Monday morning or Friday evening..
What I did to fix the problem was remove material from the bottom lip of the barrel. To do this properly I should have removed the barrel for the metal removal. Instead I was very cautious with the dremel tool. The feed ramp and the bottom of the barrel are even and smooth now. My test yesterday went great with Hornady XTP hollow points shooting double taps. A word of CAUTION, the feed ramp material is softer than the barrel material. If you screw up the feed ramp you have trashed your gun. You cannot put the material back on the feed ramp. You can however replace the barrel if you mess it up. Do not touch the feed ramp except to polish it.
Hope this helps someone.
