I always thought this was a gapping hole in the Brady bill in the first place but someone please correct me if this is wrong, but don't all these rules apply to the buying of a new gun aka: from a dealer, as I have bought several guns from private owners at gun shows and the only thing I've been asked for was the cash....never shown an ID to prove I lived in state

Yep, it is the commonly described 'gun show loophole' that the antis whine about. Although the law about selling across State lines applies to both us and dealers, typically private sellers ignore it - although they and the buyers do so at their own peril. Should you be the victim of an ATF sting at a gunshow - it's a Federal offense. A lot of gun shows do not permit private sales at the show, for this very reason.

I wasn't born in America, but I got here as fast as I could.

Didn't know that.  thanks.

I'm after a new one anyway.  Well,  I'm in the market for a new wallet, so perhaps I can find that at the gun show in Texas next week and won't have to have it shipped anywhere..  ;D

It's really not a hassle to have it shipped to an ffl.  I use a local ffl that charges $25 transfer fee and I have a copy of their ffl.  Then all I have to do is provide a copy to the out of state seller and pay shipping, then I pick up the handgun in a couple of days at my local ffl to do paperwork. When you do this you do not pay the sales tax on the gun in the state of sale, but are supposed to pay it in your home state by including it on your taxes at end of year, just like ordering anything off internet. I like to actually handle the gun that I buy before laying out a lot of cash.  Just be sure the gun you buy complies with your home state law.
