It's not the best job, but atleast it looks better than before.

Well, I decided I wasn't happy with the bluing work. Came out sloppy. I have now just sanded it down and polished it. Let me know what you guys think.

Looks like I'll be getting the entire slide painted with Cerakote on Monday. I've read a lot of good reviews on Cerakote and I'm hoping that the finish will withstand the hammer strikes on the back better than the CZ factory coating. I'll keep people posted on this thread as I go in the next days, months, etc.

I actually called the company and asked them about whether Cerakote will withstand hammer strikes on the back, and they said yes. We'll see how this holds up.

Hi Heero,

I believe what you were seeing was not rust but a type of parkerization. If you do a quick google search you will see that CZ techs have answered the "brown under slide and hammer" question by saying it's a red parkerization they perform at the factory. My boss and I both picked up CZ P-01s this past week and they have that coloration by where the hammer strikes and under the slide. It's not rust and can easily be distinguished as se sort of parkerizing. That's what yours may have been.

That being said, what color cerakote are you going with?! I'm loving the look of burnt bronze on CZs.

I see. I guess even if that's the case, the discoloration bothers me lol. I like my guns to look clean! I'm planning on sticking with Graphite Black. I believe that is the closest matching color to the CZ P-01.

I bet it will look awesome when it's done. Cerakote is a wonderful finish when done right. Post up pics when you get it back.

That is not blueing, that is paint.
Blueing will not glob onto the surface like that, it reacts with the surface.
Double check and see if it says Flat Black or Gloss Black on the Birchwood Casey pen.

Looking at your later photo with the paint removed it appears the surface is in good shape so you might try using an actual blueing solution on it.

Well, I got some good news and bad news.

Good news is, I got it cerakoted and it came out fantastic. Graphite black in Cerakote is a direct match to the CZ color. Here's a picture.

Bad news is, I accidentally scratched the back while putting the firing pin back on! I was pushing the firing pin in using a punch and it slipped off, scraping the back. I'll probably just Re-Cerakote this in the future.

I do like the look of that finish.

Heero,
That looks AWESOME!!!! How about a pic of the whole gun put together so we can see how the cerakote matches up with the frame's polycoat?!

Side note, will you stop scratching that gun up hahaha. Man you can't buy luck with the finish on that gun. I feel for you.

Here you go, a picture of the whole gun. It's such a direct match that you can't tell it has been recoated.

On a side note, the scratch on the back is bothering me so much I'm getting it redone on Saturday. LOL.

The whole gun together looks awesome. I like the cerakote. You have an addiction to having that gun refinished, I think you need help. You should get the frame done in a different color. That would be awesome. I keep telling myself that if I decide to refinish my P-01 I'm going to do the frame in graphite or tungsten and the frame in burnt bronze. Tell me that wouldn't be incredibly kick a$$!
