13lb main/CGW race hammer.. 80%
« on: July 30, 2014, 11:29:16 PM »
hi all,

Well, incase anyone cares anymore.. the kadet can fire very reliably with light main spring. see below.

tinkered again (finally) with the Kadet again,   am getting a little better than 80% first strike ignitions with 13lb main spring and CGW race hammer, 100% with second strike in my PO6.  Am pretty satisfied with that, as I don't have to change main springs when changing the upper for carry or shooting fun w/ the .40s&w.

may try another small tweak,   will update again after trial.

respectfully,
kevin

13 lb main spring with CCI ( Standard Velocity/CCI Blazer) ammo plus a factory hammer on my SP 01 produces roughly 90 percent "bangs" for me!..

I wonder how the CGW Shadow hammer will work with that set up!?

thanks schmeky,    and rice guy..  give us update post your new hammer.

mine until the hammer change was almost 100% reliable first strike with CCI ammo and 13lb hammer.  I love the 13lb CGW spring and hammer change I did,  (CGW is the best and has the best CZ upgrades bar none.. my humble opinion, in involved interest in CGW other than product buy's/upgrades to my personal guns)

so, with the new hammer and light main spring things dropped to 50% initially on first strikes.  and always 100% on re-strike DA pull.  now with no other changes,  other than the small one I made (am hesitant to say)..  back up to 80% conservatively.. no better than 90% yet.. but,

.22lr ammo is dang hard to find.. at decent prices..   I can almost actually shoot my .40cal cheaper than the .22lr.    actually I can.
since when does .22lr ammo become cheaper/harder to find and more than quadruple its price in 3yrs????   makes no sense 2yrs almost post Sandy Hook.  sorry to digress.

I actually shoot my centerfire guns more now.  go figure.

anyway....  still have to make my 'other small change on the Kadet",   am hesitant.. as I can survive just fine on the SA/DA action on my CZ's  and pull a trigger twice if needed to send a round downhill w/ out the tap, rack, crap.

peace to all, and your preference's.   MY PO6 is 100% reliable and deadly accurate with the CGW works stuff, I would never look back and go backwards just for .22lr priced greater than my centerfire's. now!

cheers
K

K,
I agree on the CGW stuff,it does work. I just paid $14.00 a box for 9mm ammo for my Glock 19. How can the .22 ammo
continue to cost so much?

I have read through too many posts on Kadet kit performance so excuse me if there is an easy reference to my question.

After cajunizing my 85 Combat (13# main spring, disco and SRS, extended firing pin with reduced spring, and Race Hammer) my Kadet kit fails terribly. Before I do similar improvements to a 75B I would like to know:

What are the key CGW parts I can use to smooth and lighten trigger pull, reduce pretravel and reset, AND STILL ASSURE IGNITION of a variety of .22 rounds?

Thank you in advance. J

Just don't lighten the hammer spring.

The CGW parts will still be effective in SA. The DA pull will be heavier than your Combat.
I had the right to remain silent...

but not the ability.

What 'painter' said.
Others have said to use a minimum of a 17# hammer spring for the kadet to be most reliable with assorted ammunition brands.  Some say 15# works in their's.

I might keep my current kadet set up on my SP 01 Tactical frame, 13 lb main spring using CCI Standard Velocity rounds.

Fired off roughly 100 rounds this weekend and got one fail to fire on Single action but when off after second attempt. I did get one fail to eject...

I do get the occasional fail to lock to the rear after the last shot though.. any suggestions on how to fix that.. aside from going to HIGH VELOCITY rounds?!

Best target round this weekend was a 95-3X slow fire on a B-8 target.. but that was only at 15 yards...
