P-01 vs. G19 size comparison
« on: August 02, 2014, 08:33:41 AM »
My Glock 19 is my EDC, but I've fallen in love with my P-01. I shoot it very accurately and found that it was very concealable as well. In putting the two side-by-side I've found that they are just about the same size w/the CZ having a slightly longer grip (maybe 1/4"). As a lefty the slide lock and decocker are on the side facing away from my body so it is not uncomfortable for me. I figured I'd post up some pictures of the Glock 19 and CZ P-01 next to each other so anyone whom was wondering about concealability of the CZ could compare it to a very common carry gun in the G19.

The top shot (note, I do have a gripforce adapter on my G19 and I have done some grip work):

CZ has a wider grip, but you could easily slim it with different grips. I love the rubber ones so they are staying:

The are almost identical in size in every way:

Showing the thickness similarity (the grip looks longer on the CZ in this one, but note the position of the beaver tails. If they were lined up, it would be almost the same length):

Side by side:

Same thickness, minus the controls on the CZ:

Hope this helps anyone whom hasn't handled a P-01 and was wondering how concealable it would be. I find it very concealable, using just a remora holster. I may get an aliengear holster soon. Feel free to ask any questions.

Thanks for the photos and information. Looks like you have installed a set of Tru Glo FO sights on the G19 as well?

I own a P-01 and use it for carry with the exception of the warmer summer months when I go to a smaller pistol (M&P Shield). I find the P-01 conceals very well with the right belt and holster. It's one of the best shooters I own.

I've always been curious about the Glocks as there is a reason they are so popular, but with my collection and preference for CZs, I've never gotten around to shooting one. How would you compare the way the G19 handles compared to the P-01? I'm interested in things like relative weight, recoil, natural point of aim, accuracy, and ergonomics.

Accuracy, n. A certain uninteresting quality carefully excluded from human statements.

Nice side-by-side comparison. The leather G19 holsters I've tried all fit my P01 pretty well.

I put some VZ grips on my P01 and it slims it down nicely.

GRB,
You are very welcome for the pics and thank you for the kind words. I do have TruGlo TFOs on my G19 and love them! I wish they made them for CZ, I'd buy them in a heart beat.

As for your questions, I can only answer why Glock is so popular for myself. I love my Glock because it is incredibly simple. I can take apart, modify, smith, any part of that gun in a matter of minutes. It really is one of the most basic firearms out there. The aftermarket accessories are so plentiful and inexpensive that it makes modifying your gun to fit you a breeze and relatively cheap.

G19 vs CZ P-01:

Handling- The G19 and the P-01 feel the same in recoil. I find the G19 to be very soft shooting and the P-01 is a pleasure. I did take screen shots from slow motion video on my iPhone and compared the muzzle rise in recoil, here's picture examples:

G19:

P-01:

They seem about the same, with slightly less muzzle rise on the G19. I will attribute that to familiarity with the guns. I have shot the G19 for over 6k rounds and have shot maybe 300 through the CZ so with more rounds, I'd expect them to even out.

Weight-
Feels the same to me with the P-01 maybe being a hair heavier, but only a hair.

Natural Point of Aim-
CZ is a natural point and shoot firearm, Glock is NOT! I have to emphasize that because for most shooters that have shot Glock, the Glock grip angle causes your sights to be pointed high upon presentation. You have to slightly break your wrists down to get them aligned properly. With practice it is easy and becomes instinct, but it's not natural. The CZ is a pleasure and feels like an extension of my hand. I have no problem hitting the 'X' over and over again. It's very easy to aim.

Accuracy-
I shoot the CZ more accurately, even though I've shot it far-less-than the Glock, to 15 yards. After 15 yards I tend to do better with the Glock and I feel this is directly related to the sights. I shoot the Glock more accurately in fast fire strings because I am so used to riding the short reset of my Glock. The P-01 has a little longer reset and can result in trigger slapping for me. I shoot the Glock better weak hand which I also attribute to familiarity with the trigger.

Ergos-
No question. CZ wins hands down for me. There's a reason my Glock wears a grip force adapter, has a lower finger hump removed, undercut trigger guard, and stippling job. I did that to make it fit my hand to where it felt made for me. The CZ P-01 felt like it came from me from the factory, I even love the rubber grips.

Hope that helps, ask anymore questions you may have and I'll do my best to answer.

knoxy,
Thank you. I do love VZ grips, I have them on my Stingray-C. I just love those chunky rubber ones lol. They are so darn comfortable. I haven't had issues with them grabbing my shirt either, which I've heard some people complain about.

Nice comparison. I also took some shots of my PCR and a gen 4 Glock 19 that I picked up.

Good shots Jakashh. I am surprised at just how similar they are in size.

This is my favorite size gun.

I've had in chronological order:
Glock 19 (sold it to my son)
Walther P99
CZ P-01

They are essentially the same size - the perfect compromise in capacity and carry - IMO of course, also having perfect balance for ergonomics.

Towns,
Fantastic choice in firearms. Thank you for sharing those pictures. I agree the compact size is perfect for carry, home defense, etc.

Welcome to the Cult, Genin. I love Glocks, and will defend their virtues against gun hipsters all day, but there's a reason why I own four CZs. My SP-01, RAMI, and D PCR all feel like they were custom molded to my hand, and give me an unearned sense of accomplishment whenever I shoot them.

George,
As long as I don't have to wear purple nikes and wait for the tail of a comet, I'm okay with being in this cult. Love my Glock though. Can't help it. I could go on and on about the merits of my Glock. I will say that the CZ is more fun to shoot for me (the DA to SA is fun when shooting drills) and I think it's a "cooler" gun hahaha.

Viking,
Maybe those three are the only ones that feel custom made for his hand. Maybe the 4th isn't as comfortable.

Well crap.

I also have a CZ-83 which I love, but hardly ever shoot due to the cost of ammo (somebody needs to explain to me why .380 costs more than .45 ACP).

On the other hand, the 83 isn't quite as comfortable in my hands as my other CZs, so I really can't count it while I'm extolling the virtues of CZ ergonomics.

Nice comparison. Always wondered how each looked side by side. I've been contemplating on getting a g19 for it being striker fired and polymer, maybe later in the future since I'm very happy with my P-01  ;D

BEE,
Do it. You will not be disappointed in the G19. It's my EDC. I love it. It's on my side as I type right now. I appreciate the sleek no snag design of the Glock for carry and also the striker fired trigger ( I know others hate it ).
