Tritium sights for P-01
« on: August 04, 2014, 03:02:13 PM »
After spending 14 hours at the range this past weekend taking the NRA PPOH and an intermediate defensive tactical class, I've realized that, for me, the only shortcoming of this pistol is the sights. Although she and I are completely in tune as far as poa/poi, shooting in low light conditions are not easy, as I'm a sight shooter. The stock sights are tiny! Which leads to my question... How would the Meprolight tritium sights affect my poa/poi? I've read a couple of other threads on this topic, but didn't find an answer to the question. It appears the sights come in 3 sizes. And I'm really only interested in the front sight, but an entire set is not out of the question. I just don't want to mess anything up. Like I said, we're in tune!

Thoughts???

Mepros would be my suggestion. I plan on having some put on my P-01 in the near future. Cajun Gun Works has them for $80 (entire set).

I would check out Trijicon sights. I've found them to be a lot more durable and long-lived than Meprolights.

The Meprolight sights for the P-01 are the exact same height as the factory three-dot sights, so there should be no change in poa/poi.

Updated to add: Meprolight makes two sets of sights for CZs.  ML17777 is for the CZ 75 Compact .40 (and CZ 75, 83 & 85) and the ML17775 is for the P-01.  The ML17777 sights include the #5 rear sight and the ML17775 is the #4 rear sight, so if you order the ML17775 you should be good to go with the P-01.

I would go for the meprolight sights. Cajun gun works sell them for $80.00 and you can send your slide to them and have them install them for not much more. It is worth it. It is a minor job for David, but your sights will be done perfectly. I had them install them on my P-01 perfect POA. No marred finish. I installed meprolight's on my glocks and had no problem, but they are glocks.  I prefer meprolight's over trijicon. Meprolight's are brighter in my opinion.

The stock sights are tiny! Which leads to my question... How would the Meprolight tritium sights affect my poa/poi?

I can't stand the stock sights. I blacked out the dots on the rear sight on my PCR and am having David at CGW replace the front with a red fiber optic while he does some other work on it for me. (I HIGHLY recommend David and CGW parts FWIW)

My SP-01 Tactical came stock with Meprolights. I've not had it long but so far I like the sights - POA/POI is right on target. I do wish there was a bit more contrast between the front dot and the rear dots... bigger, brighter... something... but that is a minor quibble, overall. As long as you get the right set for your P-01 I would think you'd be happy with them.

I may still have the Meps switched out for the plain rear/front fiber sight picture I have everywhere else but, for now, I don't feel the same sense of urgency as I did with the other stock CZ sights. :)

Eventually I want to get  CZ Custom's Tactical rear sight with Tritium inserts along with the corresponding front tritium night sight because of the longer sight radius for better accuracy.

What is the overall height of that sight (bottom of the dovetail base to the top of the sight)?

Do you know approximately how much of a sight radius you gain with these sights over the standard OEM sights?

Sorry, I don't have a exact answer. Perhaps Stuart can answer that.

If i'm not mistaken, the rear of the rear sight will be flush with the back of the slide so approximately .5 inch will be gained.

I like the looks of the CZ Custom rear, the material surrounding the tritium is nice and subdued.
Much better than my HOLY $#!T LOOK AT ME WITH MY BIG WHITE CIRCLES!!!!! Meprolight rear sight.

9.6 mm or @ 0.3780" overall height, according to CZ Custom.

On a related note, has anyone made internal upgrades to their P-01? Some complain about the trigger, but I'm fine with it the way it is. I'm still relatively new to firearms, so I don't have a lot of experience with what really awesome triggers feel like. But, with a pistol that's been tested to fire 30k rounds without failure, I'm a little worried about installing other parts...
