New SAR K2 sitting in the safe
« on: August 06, 2014, 01:28:39 PM »
Degreased and properly "Froglubed".  300 rounds of .45 ACP sitting on the front porch.  Three more hours at the office.  Time seems to be standing still.

Be careful with the grips. They are hard to come by, and they are especially fragile around the screw hole. If for some reason they do crack, Tillandergungrips makes them fairly cheap. If I remember right they were 19$ shipped. I also had received a free replacement set from the dealer that was in Florida, which I am sorry, but I cant remember the name. Love mine. Its a great shooter.

I had a pair of Tillander grips crack.  I sprayed some Plastidip on the underside of the replacement set, and they've held up through 150 rounds, so far.

Took the new K2 out in the backyard after dinner and ran 150 flawless rounds through it.  I like it.  I like it alot.  I was dusting 12 ounce pop cans at 20 yards.  On paper, I was printing a hair low and left at 10 yards.  I think that was me though.  I always suck on paper with a handgun.  That trigger is going to take some getting used to.  I'm used to striker fired handguns aside from the P-09 I recently got.  The K2's single action trigger almost seems to go off "too soon".  It's just much lighter than I'm used to.  That's a good thing though and I'll figure it out.

Didn't fiddle with the sights, but if I ever do, what's the procedure?  This is my first handgun with adjustable sights.  I know where the screws are...just wondering what clockwise/counterclockwise turns will do.  Any info on this is greatly appreciated.

What's the purpose of that little Allen wrench that came in the bag with what I am assuming is the sight tool?

Now all you need is a trigger job and a fiber optic front sight.
Don't mistake my high post count for knowledge or wisdom.   I just like hearing myself type.

I definitely don't need the trigger to be any lighter.  Wood grips would be nice though.

+1 on treating those grips gently. They are very fragile.
Screws on mine came loose and I tightened them what seemed about right and they cracked to pieces.

EAA sent me replacements.
Installed them with tiny o-rings around the screws.
That seems to absorb the shock and so far its GTG.

Seems to me like the grips are one of the only weak points af the gun. They must have had enough complaints about them to do something about it. (if they really wanted to)  Even a basic checkered wood set would really dress up the gun. I like that O-ring idea. Bet I can scrounge some up around here. Just noticed that 3 out of 4 screws were already way loose.  I'm curious how people have cracked theirs. Obviously they won't take overtightening, but has anybody had them crack just from shooting?

On adjustable sights, always remember you want to move your rear sight in the SAME direction you want to move your shots. I don't know the actual "sight dope" i.e. how far each click moves the shot,  but on the elevation, clockwise moves your shots down. On the windage, clockwise moves your shots right.  They don't really seem to sight them in at the factory. I had to move mine up about 12 clicks. And the rear sight is noticeably not centered, so had to go 3 clicks right.

Didn't over tighten mine. I already had heard from other posts that the problem was there. I also assumed they must have just overtightened. They didn't just crack. They spyderwebbed and just fell apart. Unbelievable that a gun that is such a nice solid piece of machinery has those fragile grips.

Yeah, so far, so good.  I put 3 layers, plus some acrylic clear coat to keep the mags from sticking.
