« on: August 09, 2014, 06:07:00 PM »
I've installed pillars and ready to finish the bedding......

For those that have done this and are getting small groups.....
Did you :
Free float the barrel???
bed the full length of the barrel????
bed the first couple inches of the barrel??

That varmint bbl is a heavy one!!!

I installed pillars and bedded my Varmint after replacing the factory stock with a custom built BR stock.  I have also replaced the factory barrel with a Lilja barrel. You won't hurt anything by pillaring and bedding if you do it right. After bedding the action I bedded the first 3 inches of the barrel. I have also bedded the entire barrel channel with Permatex gasket material. Yes, it did improve the accuracy. As to the weight of the barrel, they ARE heavy, but I only shoot it from a bench :)

With the 455 full length bedding the stock works best.
