PO-1 vs 75 BD differences?
« on: August 15, 2014, 06:49:19 PM »
I think I asked about the wrong gun comparison already.  I meant to ask what difference will I notice from my 75 BD compared to a PO-1 which is available in CA?  I had asked about the SP-01 in error.

Barry,

My first CZ was a P-01.  A few months later, I bought a used 75 BD.

My intention was to carry the P-01, and use the BD as a "fun gun" to modify and maybe shoot in IDPA.   I like the BD so much I carry it sometimes too.

Although the BD isn't excessively heavy, the P-01 is definitely lighter and you'll notice the difference, especially if you want to carry it all day.  If you're used to the BD, the P-01 will have similar feeling controls, and working the slide will be the same.

You'd think the P-01 would not be as pleasant to shoot, but it is.  I'm not sure why, but the P-01 is very easy to control.  It must be balanced well is all I can figure.

I have different hammer, sights and springs on the BD versus the P-01, so the trigger pulls are different on mine.  I think they were pretty similar before doing the modifications.

If you have specific questions, let us have them.  Don't know if I helped much.

My 75 Bd shoots and handles better than my compacts, PCR & P-01. The recoil is hardly felt and goes back on target faster.
It is longer by 1.1" and taller by .4" and is heavier by 6.7oz. The 75 is all heavy metal compared to the anodized aluminum frame of the P-01. The 75 OEM mags hold 16 & the P-01 hold 14, 16 with the extended base plate. The 75 does not have a rail but the P-01 does.
The compacts are great pistols, shoot fantastic but I enjoy shooting my full size 75 BD more for target shooting. I am sure it is the weight and sight radius.

Thanks guys.  So today I stroll into the dealer I bought my last one from just killing time.  Told him I would like a PO-1.  They found 1 after doing a lot of searching distributors.  I wasn't ready for that surprise but I jumped on it!  Who knows, in another year there may be no guns available or at least the ones we want here in Kaliforny.  So he should get the serial number Tuesday, I go complete the paper work and wait 10 days.  He showed me a new product they got in.  A small gun safe that is DOJ approved for the passenger compartment of your car even if you do not have a CCW.  It locks the gun and magazine in separate compartments but opens both at once with a touch combination.  Granted it's not like being able to carry locked and loaded but for someone not able to get a permit maybe.....Not cheap. $399.  Anyway, thanks for all your input on the PO-1.

Good news!  Thanks for sharing.

Hey, that safe sounds interesting, especially for those in my family who don't have a CC permit.  Do you have a name for the safe?

Once again Google to the rescue.  It was the Titan Gun Safe. Can be seen on Amazon $370.00 + shipping.  The thing that makes it legal in California is the fact that the ammo is in a separate compartment from the gun when locked even though they both open together. I was told if you left your magazine inserted in the gun, locked in this safe and did not have a carry permit you could be arrested.

Just wondering....will my 75BD mags work in my new not yet received PO-1?  I mean for just shooting at the range so I don't have to load so many??  all are 10 rounders.

Yes they fit but will stick out.  It will not affect the function at all though

Unless you put the SP-01 base plates on them - then you have a 16-round mag that lines up flush with the P-01 grip.

You can also add the CZ Custom spring/follower kit for an extra round too...

Update: so today I go to my dealer to complete the paperwork for my new PO-1.  Just before going there, I stop at the other local dealer just a couple blocks away and low and behold!! he had 2 PO-1s in the display case!  3 days ago no one had any or could find any other than the 1 my dealer found.  So, they are out there again.....10 days and I have mine!

What's the difference between the 10 kit and the 13 kit? Which one works best with a compact magazine?
